Hey guys
Just found an ad for a LeJeune Tour De France for 25$. Wondering if anyone could tell me if this is worth a trip into quebec to pick up?

I just called, and the guy said he's 5'6 and rides it.. I'm 6 feet tall, so I am doubtful of its suitability. The to tube apparently measures about 22 inches, no idea re: seat tube. Is this at all salvageable?

I looked on classic rendezvous, there was no info on a TdF model but the LeJeunes I have seen are all very nice so yes it is probably worth it either way depending on the price.

Lejeunes, like all things French were made really awful to pretty darn nice. Depends what level the TdF model is. I think I read it was an established brand name, but the frame building was actually farmed out to various independent frame builders. One in particular was quite good.
BTW, I'm 6' 1", and ride a 56cm (22.5"). Correct frame size really depends how you are build. I'm very low waisted for instance, so probably have shorter legs that someone else the same height.

Good to know- I've been wondering what my ideal size is. The peugeot I'm putting together is around 25' so I think this'll give me a bit more room, but I'm not sure if it'll be too big. No worries either way, the frame was free. I was surprised though that the top tube is essentially the same length as my old (too small) touring sekine, despite the longer seat tube. Is this because it's a track frame instead of a touring one? I kind of assumed the size would increase proportionately.

small frames often have longer top tubes than seat tubes... 58cm bikes can often be found squared up... or have the same length top tube. as the seat tube gets longer the top tube length does not increase. I am not a builder or an engineer for that matter but realise that this makes sense because bikes fit. I have various 25' (roughly 61-63cm) frames. They have top tubes that range from 57cm to 59cm. I have even seen 61 or so cm seat tube bikes which claim to have 60 or 61cm top tubes, they are usually cyclocross bikes. I think it depends on the era the bike was built in to some extent as fashions change.

I am 5'11 and I'm comfortable on a 22" (56cm) frame.
I used to own a '73 Lejeune track frame but sold it because the top tube was a bit long and I was never really too happy with it.
A Tour de France rider rode a Lejeune to a stage win in 1972 (Lucien Van Impe or something like that) and some bikes had headtube and downtube decals which read "Vainquerer de le Tour de France" in the years immediately following.
I believe that the paint scheme went from red with a sky blue head tube to all red in 1974.
My track bike came with a Stronglight bottom bracket, headset and mod. 93 crankset.
It sure sounds like it could potentially be worth $25!

I agree, colors are very variable, there are trends, but there are many exceptions, the local left coast importer for them way back took two years to sell some models in some sizes, so what came out of the box could vary depending on the size.
Not all, but many of the LeJeunes imported were the better models, more profit potential for the same freight. There was a period when bikes from France had a price advantage because of the exchange rate, even with Italian parts.
