Vintage ID
I need to take a picture of it (what else is new), but I got my step-uncle's old race bike. Single speed, dark red frame, toe straps, only a front brake and sew-ups.
Any sites to look at pictures or get info on what kind of bike it is. It is from the 1920-1940 I believe. I understood he used to ride it to race and then ride home. |
Post a pic. Sometimes bikes of that period had unique chainrings, so get a close-up of them, too. Headbadges are important, too. Hubs, pedals, rims, get manufacturer's names off of all them.

Will do. I will make sure I get pics of those things. Glad you mentioned it, I had not thought about it.
It also has drop handle bars on it. |
take a pic of the underside of the bottom bracket and the lugs/welds while your at it :)

Ok, I'm betting its got BSA crankset, (maybe
Chater-lea if its british!), wood rims. If its a U.S. made bike could be early Schwinn or maybe a Drysdale, Wastyn? Any takers? Marty |
By single speed do you mean it only has one sprocket front and rear or does it not have freewheel capability?
Actually i'm surprised that it has any brakes. Joe |
Originally posted by joeprim Actually i'm surprised that it has any brakes. have been converted for road use. It would be a shame if someone drilled a 60 to 80 year old fork crown to add brakes. I doubt that any track bike of that vintage would have brakes. Hopefully he replaced the track fork with a road fork. Marty |
