Barracuda Mk.I gets a new top side.

Original Build Thread

It's been just over a year since I first built up the Barracuda Mk.I, and I recently did an update post to the original thread. But these updates to the bike deserved a new thread.

Six weeks ago I decided to move the Cinelli XA stem and Model 66 bar from the Barracuda over to the Gazelle, and the Selle Italia Flite saddle moved over as well. And the search for new parts for the Barracuda begun.

I wanted a slightly wider bar than the 40cm Cinelli as well, and finding any silver 42cm bar with the cable grooves for the aero Tektro R200A levers is difficult, let alone a good condition one with a traditional bend. But at last, here on BikeForums, I found what I was looking for. Dial_Tone who usually hangs out on the Roadie forum had a 3TTT that fit the bill.

Next I picked up a stem, a decently nice forged alloy job that ended up taking a month to get to me after the shop shipped me the wrong style stem the first time. But finally the correct one arrived late last week and the 3TTT bar installed easily.

And that left a new saddle. 55/Rad thankfully had the answer for that. He sent me a beautiful, barely used, San Marco Rolls that he had taken off one of the many italian frames he's recently had pass through his hands.

Today I finally got everything put back together. Finished off with a new roll of my favorite (if not all that vintage) bar tape. I also took a moment of time to polish off the Nashbar "N" off the brake calipers. Hopefully the weather will agree with me enough this week so I can get out for a short ride and test out the Rolls saddle.

Looks great! The paint seems to holding up, as well.

Just out of curiosity - why a wired computer? The bike has a nice clean look, and the wire sort of clutters it up.

I'm considering taking the computer completely off this bike next summer. But yes, the wired computer does clutter it up a bit doesn't it. As for why? Already had the computer off another bike and just had to buy another mount.

Paint is holding up well indeed. Of course I baby the frame when I'm loading and storing it. And make sure I wipe down the frame after any dusty or wet ride to make sure the dirt doesn't build up.

Nice job Jon. I think you will really like a wider handlebar.

One word - "classsssssyyyyy" with the slurred S sound.

She's real purdy. Hope the saddle works for you.

I agree about the computer - something about putting a computer on these classics doesn't seem right to me. I guess it's because I ride mine purely for the fun of riding and don't want the added pressure of keeping time. I save that for the modern rigs.

I've got a 42cm bar on the Schwinn that I've now got a couple hundred miles on, and now the cuda's been converted over to a 42cm bar. Now if only I could find that elusive Cinelli 66-42 with the cable grooves to put on the Gazelle. The Cinelli XA stem looks so perfect on the bike that I want to make sure I keep using it. I can't wait to get this bike back out on the road. It's been hanging on the rack too long this fall, and it felt so good to wrap the bars with fresh white barwarp and then wrap my hands around the bars and slide up on the saddle. It was about then that I realized it had started raining outside and I only had an hour and a half till I left for a holiday party with my wife.

But I will get a ride in soon.

Edit: Lookie what I won tonight: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=130054835967
