I just took a look at it, I never really thought about it much, since I've found so many lately. It's Shimano Deore, with a kind of smooth sculpted look. Not real fancy, just a clean look component set. I didn't see any
secondary model numbers or anything. I have one question though. Are there 8 speed indexed DT shifters? The friction has enough room to go 8 speeds, but I would love indexed.,,,,BD

Bikedued, for what it's worth, Suntour made an 8-speed, index downtube shifter set. So I'm sure Shimano had one as well. But I've not seen either on ebay for a while.

You've got an early 1980's model. 1982 Catalog page, from post #24 of this thread, shows all the details. I don't see why you wouldn't stick with the friction shifters. Set the limit screws on the derailleurs and never worry about adjusting them again! And no worries about compatibility. They'll shift anything.

It has friction/indexed shifters, the same ones as my 87 Prelude. I guess they've been changed. It works
perfectly on indexed, it just doesn't have enough clicks. If there are 8 speed indexed, I would like to use them. It's being updated, 8 speed friction kind of sounds like an oxymoron, hehe.,,,,BD

I also just checked out the #24 post. My components don't look like that at all?? I will have to take a picture later. My bike reminds me of later eighties for some reason?,,,,BD

Selectra

Hello,

I just pulled this out of my friends garage, cleaned it, replaced the back tire, and put on new handle bar tape and walah.
https://zbikes.com/gallery/Recent-Add...oint_reyes_018

He asked me to sell it for him; but after riding it, i think i might want it for myself!

I'm trying to date this bike.

Does anyone know the year Shogun started making the Selectra? I assume it was later then the 300, 400, 500. How does the Infinity tubing compare to the Champion tubing?

This one has Tange double butted Infinity frame and fork, Sugino cranks and chain ring, Sakae seat post, Shimano 6 speed 105, index/friction shifters on the downtube, and Shimano light action derailleur, Shimano SLR brakes,.

Thanks
z

I'm not sure. I have a Shogun "Cro-Mo 400," or so it said on the side decals, near the seat tube. It was a 1983, had Shimano Altus FD and RD, double front, 6-spd rear. Frame was Tange seamless Champion #5 tubing. Bar and stem were Alps, another Japanese company, brakes were Shimano center pulls. Cranks were Sugino cotterless. Hubs were Shimano laced to Araya 27" rims. The shifters were DT, but clamped, and there were no bottle cage or shifter bosses. The frame is long with a lot of clearance. Hopefully, this will help you date the bike. I kept the parts, but it's now a quiet, fast single-speed with a clean frame. I kept the headbadge of course. Someday, I may re-gear it for touring because it's so long, and begs for front and rear panniers.

Selectra

Thanks, since this bike has index shifters I'm guessing at least 1986, and SLR brakes moves it to 1987?

all Shogun owners are invited to the "Shogun serial # database" thread in Classic and Vintage. Maybe we will get a "database" after all! Here is my 1979:
