Miyata Colors

I will be receiving this bike next week. It's a used Miyata 610 with supposedly low miles (like 100) from late 80's.

The color was described as bronze. In the pics it looks more like a wine or even dark metallic red, not bronze.

I know some of you out there have Miyata bikes and even maybe this color. What does your bike really look like in person? Bronze? Red? Metallic red? Dark wine?

The reason I ask is I want to re-wrap bars. I like colorful color bar tape - I'm not much into black. When I'm out on a 6 hour ride in 90 degree heat I want a light fun color - it perks me up.

What color bar tape would you think goes with this color Miyata?

I definitely saw this bike on ebay and I definitely wanted to buy it (it has a BIN of $250 for a few days), but you know the old story... I'm glad someone got it.

Wow, I had to go out into the garage and make sure my 610 was still there! (It is.)

What you see in the pictures is a pretty good image of the bike's color. I'd call it kinda metallic burgandy red. Looks nice in the sunlight.

As for tape? Maybe silver to match the headtube and lettering?

It's a 1986 model and the official color name is Claret Red. As stated by Raverson, the pics are good representations of the color. Black tape is the original color, but my second choice would also be silver. If you could PM me the serial number, after you receieve the bicycle, it would be appreciated.

Of course Claret Red, a Bordeaux, not a Burgundy. Great color choice for touring wine country.

T-Mar, soon as I can get the #'s rounded up I'll PM you mine.

How about yellow, or white?

Yellow may be good. What about natural brown/beige cloth. or natural cork color? Maybe even a darker blue. Or some of the two color splash tape grey and dark grey?

Hey that's a sweet Miyata, take a look at my camel-colored 710. They ride so sweet. T-Mar told me it was circa 1981

I've seen a ton of nice Miyatas for sale on eBay, but did not think much of them until I searched these forums and found out they are generally regarded as excellent bikes, and the touring series in particular is very well respected. That's why I bought the 610.

I had to walk away from the computer when I saw that 610. I've been wanting a touring Miyata for some time and that one was the perfect deal for me. Just couldn't swing it right now though. Congratulations, you've got one fine bike there. Be sure to show us some glamor shots once you get it.

I am also looking at the guy selling handmade woden fenders on eBay. I may get a pair for the Miyata and my Mercian, too.

I have a pair of the wooden fenders but haven't mounted them on anything yet. They're kind of funky looking since they're flat so I'm waiting for the right project (soon). Your Miyata is too nice a bike for something like that in my opinion, but I've been wrong before.

The wooden fenders are sweet and they look great on certain vintage rides but I think silver SKS or Honjo's would really look sharp and appropriate and keep the bike highly functional. Just my two pennies.
