I believe it is a PX10 circa 1975-77. I looked at that bike, and tried to figure out if the derailleurs were SLJs or SXs. I think they are SX (derlin shifter handles, don't appear to be retrofrictions), but you can tell w/ a magnet (it'll stick to the lesser SX). Had I been certain they were the SLJ model, I would have likely bought the bike. You got a pretty good price in any eventuality.

Note it could be a version of Theveneut's bike, basically a PX frame w/better components (PSV? I don't have any info here right now). Post lotsa pics when you get it and we'll disect it more.

Thanks for the reply... It seems like it might be a version of Theveneut's bike since it has the "Record Du Monde" written around the lion but it does not have drilled components so I am wonderings.......

Maybe it is an earlier version? It appears to be full reynolds tubes, forks, and stays...

It is at least a 1975, based on the decals. The small-BCD crankset caught me by surprise.

The presence of what appears to be a Stronglight 99 crankset suggests it may be a PX60, as opposed to a PX10. I don't think it's a PY10 as the Reynolds decals appear to have green numbering, as opposed to red, and as suggested by Pogue' the rear derailleur appears to be an SX, as opposed to an SLJ.

The decals do suggest 1975 to 1978, but the derailleur suggests it's from the latter end of the range.

Don't PX60s always have a generator mounting tab on the left seat stay?

I believe the presence of the generator tab varied, depending on the actual year. Of course it could still be a PXN10 with a different crankset or a PX10 with a different crankset and clincher wheelset. The spoke protector looks out of place but some of the very late 1970s PXN10 did come with them and that particular style does match the Peugeot OEM protector, so I"m thinking the wheels are probably original. The colour is certainly more indicative of a PX10N than a PX60. I don't think we could rule out either model. The OP would have to ask the seller some specific questions to be sure.

It also appears to lack downtube waterbottle braze-ons, which the py10 has... even the px10 appears to have braze-ons.

Most PXs I have seen, up to the 1979 model, are pretty braze on free. Only braze ons on my three PXs (1967,1972,1973) are a cable guide on the rear drive stay and a stop for the clamp on shifters (I'd actually have to check on that, the bikes ain't here). Very clean frames. My guess is a PX with some modifications. I know in 1979 the PXs came with an SX derailleur stock, so T-mars guess it may be later in the run may be correct.

As you're finding, there's a bit of guess work in dating this bike, and sometimes some confusion on the model.

The 'record du monde" is on every Peugeot frame I currently own (six, I think), and most of the ones that have passed thru my hands as well (50? 100? I lost count somewhere). It's not any sort of model id, nor does it help much in pinning down the year.

You've got a very nice bike there; I gave some thought to picking it up, as I thought the price reasonable. Actually, on the cheap end of reasonable.

Pogue, I think you should develop a flow chart for identifying the model and year of Peugeots!
