Initial help dating a Fuji

All -

What should I say to her, like, "Hey, do you like, uh, movies or something?"

Okay, seriously, I've got an old (what I think is mid-80s) Fuji road bike, and I've always wanted to try to get a little more information about my ride; you know: year, tubing, etc.

I don't have a camera, so no pictures yet. To start is there a place to look for serial or ID numbers? I should also mention that before I became the owner it had been repainted, or at least it sure looks like it.

Thanks for reading,
BDS

Okay. I unpacked a really terrible little webcam and took a few pictures of the frame.

There is a number J505 stamped on the bottom of the bottom bracket & the dropouts are Suntour Pro. Is there anything else I can check on the bike for ID purposes?

Thanks again,
BDS

Sorry to keep adding posts - I'm remembering details about the bike from when I first got it.

Weinmann (sort of deep) rims (black) w/ dura-ace hubs. I think that the free wheel was a 6 spd. The rest of the parts were a mix of Ultegra 600, Suntour Superbe (I think, its partially scratched off the seatpost) and I think a Cinelli stem & bar.

Of course, all of this probably indicates that it was sort of bastardized before I got my grubby mucks on it and started scratching the paint. However, I really appreciate any input you all may have as to how to get a better indication of its model/year/etc.

Thanks!

After further perusal of the archived forums, I'm beginning to understand that there isn't a whole of information on older Fujis. I'll try to post some better snapshots - that might help ballpark the frame.

Thanks!
