Hi, I am looking for two Raleigh brake adjusting barrels. One that is appropriate
for a 74 model. Two different bikes, reason for two barrels.

Can you provide a little more detail? Which model of brakes do you have? Center pull? Side pull? Is the adjustment barrel at the lever, the caliper, or at one of the stops?

The adjustment barrel is in the cross piece that goes between the seat stays.
If I was near my bikes I would take a picture. No computer at home at the moment.
I have two working Raleighs with the little adjusting barrel.

Actually, I posted after going to Bikes Not Bombs here in Boston. They ship used bikes to various
poor parts of the world. They save some of the better parts of the bikes to sell for financing their
activity. One of these days I will post a picture of their bike pile - at least 3000 bikes last time
I saw it. There is also Broadway Bicycle school that has an inventory of used parts, but they always
look to me to be picked over. I donno of any other bike shop in the Boston area that has a good
selection of vintage bike parts.

I don't recall seeing anyone selling older adjusting barrels on ebay. I have see boxes of parts
(for example see here https://sporting-goods.search.ebay.co...sassZsuesmccoy),
but nothing like the above. Perhaps I am not looking hard enough (reading ebay listings is my
prime way of avoiding work).

I checked the Yellow Jersey website, didn't see anything there.

It seems like this is a common enough problem, there are lots of old raleighs out there. I a little
surprised that there are some approach to this problem.

I think that is the standard size - I have a few of those.
The old raleigh barrels are about half the diameter. One of these days I will get a closeup shot.

I may be jumping the gun a little here, but I'm starting the search for a bike/frame that would be appropriate for randonneuring (fast, light touring). My preferences are lightweight lugged steel, 54-56 cm, with two or three bottle fittings, eyelets and mounting bosses for a rack and fenders. Additional braze-ons for cantilever brakes, holding spokes and lamp fittings would give additional consideration, as would a particularly distinctive frame, or one from a small builder/shop.

I don't think I'll actually be in a position to make a move on this for about another month, but I anticipate I will not have to limit myself to extreme penny-pinching (my usual mo) on this one. If you happen to come across something that fits the bill, please run it by me - even if it's lacking in one or two of the criteria I've mentioned (not flexible on the size or eyelets though).

fwiw - I've made a goal for myself to start formal randonneuring, and presently, the most suitable bikes I have for this are a Miyata 210 (which rides very nicely, but is a bit larger and heavier than what I'd prefer), and a Trek 830 MTB - which despite the size and fittings, is also a tad heavy, and not what I'd prefer to use.

i've got a 23" (bottom bracket to top tube, c-c) centurion ironman dave scott expert, nice shape - when what i thought i was buying was a 21" (ebay). the top tube on mine (c-c) is ~57 cm - i'd like to have more like 54 cm top tube. i really like the bike otherwise - is anyone riding a slightly too-small centurion ironman, diamond back master, or similar steel 20 pound bike, in good shape, especially near nyc, just wishing they could get the extra couple centimeters?

Looking for a adjusting barrel nut for a Mafac competition brake lever. It may be the same on other levers, but I have no idea. It screws into the lever body, and the adjuster then screws onto this piece through the brake hood. I just found out one of mine was missing on my old PX/PS whatever it is, lol. Looks like a hollow double ended stud with a nut in the middle.,,,,BD

I presume this is the adjuster that actually fits thru the hole in the arched centerpull brake support on the older raleighs, and is brass colored? This part can be really difficult to find by itself, as they are easily lost, and people who switch to side-pulls (such as on super courses, competitions, and Internationals) generally toss them out! I have scoured up a few, and hold on to them tightly, as I have a number of Raleigh frames which one day will want one! Sorry!!

Yes it's a dark grey rim. If it's a 27" for 36 spokes, I will be happy to remunerate you for it!!!

Looking for a pair of QR skewers for a set of 6 speed C Record hubs. The skewers don't have to be C Record, but they have to be Campy, match, and fit 6 speed hubs (126 rear).

And, yes, I'm watching eBay, too.
