Riding a Gazelle at last
That's the Champion Mondial crossbike I'd been after for some time. When I went to pick it up, it looked much worse than the seller's pics had prepared me for; tires crumbling at the rim, jockeywheels as toothless as an old hag and most of all a frame in a really horrible state - I've never seen so many scratches, nor this kind of matt emulsion-not-quite-the-same-colour 'touch-ups' (looked like typpex!).
Here's 2 photo's before & 1 after, I've managed to cover the worst of it with tape (creating an additional 'panel' on the downtube with sticky-back plastic) ... a temporary solution until (if?) I decide to have the frame resprayed. I doubt that actually, because a pristine looking frame would surely make me think twice about using this bike as an all-weather commuter, which was my intention when buying it!
Because here's the thing : I WANT to ride this every day, because it is an absolutely amazing ride, light and swift, I enjoy every minute on this bike!
New bits : Shimano brake pads and hoods, jockey-wheels, saddle and pedals from old commuter, Schwalbe marathon comfort 32mm tires (29 mm in reality), SKS fenders.
I'm one happy commuter at the moment!

I don't see any pictures!
edit: copy/pasted url of img into browser window and got the pics up from the flickr site. That paint job seems oddly familiar. Now where have I seen that before...
And if you do decide to respray, mswantak will have all the artwork needed to produce the decal set for you. (I'm an enabler aren't I?)

... it always looks much whiter on photo, the actual colour is a kind of a yellowy off-white sort of ivory & mother of pearl mix. All I'm saying is, don't be fooled by the pics, it still looks battered & kind of dirty, but hey, it's supposed to be a 'beater' (?!)

Lovely! I'd like one of those to go with my Trim Trophy roadie. In fact, one of those and the track version too.....

I know, I know. Or in the words of Ian Curtis : 'Where will it end? Where will it end?'

joe v - The original color was a pearl white, so not all of it is discolorization if that's what you're thinking. But you are right, in photos the paint does usually appear to be more white than it really is.
