Pls Help Me Convert My Raleigh 1978!

I'm commuting in London on my Dad's old 1978 Raleigh. It's still got the original Imperial wheelset on it. As a result, i keep having to change spokes and pray to god it doesn't rain...nothing grips that shiny steel braking surface. Would i encounter any problems sticking a standard 700x23c wheelset on her? I'm just thinking in terms of differences in wheel circumference etc. Any feedback appreciated.

What kind of brakes are on there right now? If they are centerpulls, you're probably fine in the back, and the front will depend on the fork. Your 27" have a 630mm diameter, while 700c's have a 622mm diameter...the braking surface will be 4mm farther from where it is now. Look at where the brake pads are set in their slots...if you have 4mm of adjustment room on each, you are good to go.

That, or lay hands on some Fibrax pads. They wear faster, but they work as well as anything on steel rims.
