cilo (japanese built)
i have been wondering about the age of a clio i picked up to kick around on. it's japanese built, sport 450 -- nice lugs, seems to be exceptional quality -- no headbadge (possibly removed?) anyone have info?

Never heard of, or seen, a Cilo that wasn't Swiss...but anything's possible. So what IDs this as Japanese? If it has a "made in Japan" sticker, doesn't it also have some tubing decal: like Ishiwata or Tange?

no tubing decal. there was about half of a made in japan sticker... bike was in good shape, with the exception of the decals (seems the previous owner did a halfassed job of attempting to remove them)

i just came across this:
"I picked up a bike at a garage sale yesterday that I had never heard of before. It's a CILO (no, not CELO) 12 speed with full Shimano 105 EVERYTHING. (Biospace crank, Araya 700c QR wheels have black rims.) The bike is about as close to out of the box as you can get with a frame size of almost 24". Color goes from a light cream to a royal blue back to a cream. Frame is Tange 1. "

but it doesn't offer much explanation... swiss built with tange tubing maybe?

Maybe Swiss-made, but I'd guess that they sourced them from a Japanese supplier and labeled them...maybe if you post some pics the details will ring a bell with somebody as to who might have built it. Tange No.1 is good tubing...
