Anyone know?

I'm not a vintage bike person, but I just stumbled across a really neat bike this weekend. I don't know if it's valuable monetarily, but it is really neat looking and fun to ride.

It's a schwinn, and I dated it as a 1953 based on the serial code. It seems to have all original parts, I guess (remember, I don't know much about these things) it has the bf goodrich/schwinn badge, it has schwinn handlebar grips, even the tires and wheels say schwinn. It has a few rust spots on the frame, the seat springs are rusty, the headlight is peeling, the basket is rusty, but overall I'd say it's not in too bad of shape.

Does anyone happen to know what model it is? Does anyone have any suggestions about whether or not I should restore it, or leave it alone? Like I said, it's not in mint shape but i don't know if it's in good enough shape that restoring it would devalue it?

Any guidance would be most appreciated!

Welcome to the forums Amanda!

I don’t know much about classics, but this bike model seems to be very common. I don’t think there is much value, due to the volume of these bikes available. By all means, clean it up and restore it, it will make a great grocery getter bike! :)

yeah, I only paid forty bucks for it, so I didn't think it would be valuable. it's really neat though, I love the look of old bikes. In fact, my other bike, only a couple of years old, is build almost just like this one, except MUCH lighter. :)

Thanks for the welcome.

Hey Amanda...

I guess from your remarks that you really are a vintage bike person- you just never thought about it that way:)

Maybe the language has negative connotations for some folk? Yet 'Retro" styling seems to be a big commercial success, as your modern bike illustrates.

Enjoy!

That's a good point. However, when I say I'm not a vintage bike person, what i meant was that I have no knowledge. I don't know what model this bike is; I don't even know how to find out what model it is. I just know I like it.

So, if you look at it from the standpoint of knowlege, I'm not a vintage bike person, but if you're coming from a standpoint of what I like then I am most definately a vintage bike gal!

Looks like a Schwinn Hollywood.

Here's how you begin to find out what it is... Start by searching our Vintage Bicycle Picture Database.
