dia compe aero hoods on non-aero campy levers

I did a search and didn't see this combo.

I just got a bike with full super record in great condition except for the torn modolo hoods. It's a bit of a joke finding hoods for these levers without paying through the nose, and certainly not in town. While I cruise ebay for a nice knockoff gum pair, I'm still going to ride this bike.

By chance I came across a couple pairs of cheapo dia compe aero hoods, and I noticed that the shape of these is almost exactly the same as the campy non-aero. If I just lop off a bit of the top and punch a hole in them, will they fit ok, or will they just flop off? I won't do the surgery and waste spare hoods if they're going to be as floppy as the torn old modolo ones.

I should have been reading this forum earlier - what a surprise to find you can get a used pair of naked campy levers for 25 bucks, and people pay up to a hundred bucks for the hoods to go with them! I guess that's my official welcome to true vintage bikes, as opposed to just old.

I think we've had discussions on this before, but I'm not an expert by any means...

Loosescrews also has the regular Dia-Comp non-aero hoods, which don't fit too bad.

But if you want to spend the bucks, there is someone making urethane repro hoods that are really nice.

somehow I never saw the loose screws site before, thanks.

Anyone done the surgery? I guess I should just try it, I have only a pair of nos knockoff aero hoods to lose.
