any body know Velo brand early 80's
I have a chance to pick up a Velo frame. Does any body know if velo made quolity or junk or what? It had forged rear drop outs nice looking lugs and a little point on the head tupe for mounting a pump. Guess you need a strap on for the other end of the pump.It was a sample frame for a local painter and has about half a dozen styles of paint on it. I dont think it was ever riden.Yes I know photos are needed. On top of my computer problem the camera died when I went to take the first shot of it. I need to put new batteries in the camera then have the photos put on disc then put them up here. Photos on tuesday I promise, you have to see this frame.

Sounds pretty nice...how much is he asking for it with the paint like that?
|
$75 is the asking price. It looks like a good deal just for the paint job. Its mostly yellow with confetti on the seat tube , black splatter around the top tube by the seat, the back triangle is purple pearl on one bottum stay and blue on the other , theres a spirel down the back of one side, pink head tube and I think more I cant remember. If I was being practical it is a little too big for me.

Too big you say? Let me know if you do not buy it. I presume it is someplace in the area? jim

[QUOTE=tolfan]Yes I know photos are needed.
I almost put east hill at the end of this sentance;) . So did Velo make anything worth building up or is this just a wall hanger conversation art piece? |
I'd say that if jgedwa is asking about it, it's probably not a bad deal. It sounds like a great art piece as well though :D .

Oh no. I am used as a standard of approval? I am a dufus who can be talked into buying any pile of rust for the right price.
In this case in particular, I have never heard of a Velo. Seems like it could be interesting though, at least for the paint job. Got pictures yet? jim |
They made some decent seats and saddles? I have a sweet perforated leather VL-190 if I remember the model number correctly.,,,,BD:D
|
Yes, I did some google searching and didn't come up with much other than a frame or two on eBay, and a LOT of saddles.
So, pictures are a must. Jim, I just figured that you must be at least as canny as tolfan, coming from PA and all, and who knows, you could possibly sell it to the Barnes Foundation or something :D . East Hill |
OK I am going to try and post photoshttp://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...n/S5000125.jpg

I would so build and ride that frame!! I love it!

Dirt cheap for a hap'nin frame. some 80's components and you're set.

The pictures looked a lot clearer on the camera. I had them put onto disc at cvs then onto my computer then to photobucked then here.
I got some history to go with it. This was painted by Brian Meyers of Ephreta Pa, He owned the company Fresh Frames. This was painted in 86 or 87. I am told he did a lot of highend paint for pros. When brian closed down his own shop he did a couple of these frames to hang in other shops to generate sales as he was still painting. This frame hung in a shop on Orange st in Lancaster until thay closed at witch point it was purchased by Tom Pod and has hung in his shop Cycle Circle since 1994. This may be a schwinn acording to a guy that worked at the orange st shop. I am going to try and find Brian to get a definate answer. The 2 holes in the head tube look right for holding a round schwinn badge. The derailer routuing goes under the bottum bracket. The forged rear dropouts have a derailer hanger. I'm not sure what I'll do with it. Maybe have it framed into a shadow box and hang it on the wall(too big for me 62cm c to c) or build it up with the shimano 600 parts I have or buy one piece at a time and make it all campagnolo. I'm thinking plain crome for a fork unless I can find a realy good painter to do something creative to match. The person would need to be real good like a Dr. of painting. |
That's a really cool paint job...If I were I'd definitely buy it for $75 if it fit. THe "DECAL" is awesome as well:D
|
It is a work of art! Your choice tolfan, either build up, or admire.
Certainly one of a kind :D . East Hill |
That is teh awesomest. I want it!

Yes . The info I got says that it was a painters sample frame hung in a shop to drum up jobs. How would I use the "decal" like a bar code , I would love to know for sure what kind of frame this is.
