'86 Super Sport on the way!

I've been looking at auctions the last two weeks, as I need a "main" roadie to replace the one I sold recently (good Trek steelie, but a touch small). I am using a '85 World Sport with fenders as my beater, and a fine beater it is.

Anyhow, I snagged an '86 Super Sport off eBay, and it looks to be in great shape - good paint, obviously kept indoors, single owner. It's one of the red ones with black stays, Shimano 600 everything, Tenax tubing. Paid $200 plus shipping, which isn't bad considering what I would have paid on craigslist or at my LBS (they are charging $$ for good used bikes anymore).

I'm a happy guy! Any other owners of older Super Sports on here?

Congratulations on the find! I have a 1981 Super Sport which I love; I've upgraded some of the components, but still have all the original gear which came with it. For long rides I think it to be more comfortable than my other road bike (Bianchi). Don't forget to post some pictures when it arrives.

I have a '66 and a Y2K.

I think you got a good buy on the bike if it's in good condition. It outranks the Tempo discussed here recently which sold for $355 on ebay.

Yeah, of all of the auctions I followed, this went for by far the best price...not sure why, as it is in great shape judging from the multiple photos and description, and the owner knows bikes (properly listed specs, etc.). We'l see...

Wil Davis: I'll definitely get some pics up, and yours is a beauty!

I have my friend's tiny Super Sport sitting in the back room. I installed fenders on it for her as a birthday present. Nice looking bike. Then again she bought it on my recommendation

Very nice! I have an '87 Traveler which is a few rungs under your SS and am very impressed on how fine a bike it is. I can just imagine what yours is like. I call that era Schwinn's last hurrah.

Well....got it!

No piccies yet, have to get a hold of a digital camera (never had one, believe it or not) over the next week if I can.

Anyway, got it set up last night, and I must be getting the hang of set-ups. because I spent about two hours on it today and only had to change the saddle tilt a few degrees. I guessed right on this eBay purchase...this bike fits me PERFECTLY. My legs fit a 60cm bike, but my long torso fits a 63cm. This Super Sport is a 60 cm, but the TT is as long as my 63cm World Sport, plus the handlebars on the SSport sit an inch further foward. With the bar set moderately low and the seat properly set, it is absolutely spot on.

Really sweet ride on the Tenax tubing, too...seems comparable to 531. Helps that I put my trusty Gatorskins on as well, but it's just a very comfortable bike for me.
