Bianchi Squadra
Does anyone know what size wheels these are? 27 or 700cc?

I just picked up a Bianchi Squada frame and I'm trying to figure out what components it originally came with. I'd like to run 700cc so I have more tire choices and I'll probably set it up like that either way, but I'd still like to know how they originall came.
The one pictured is obviously not mine, I was just hoping someone would be able to tell what size those are. If anyone here owns this model Bianchi I'd love to hear from them.

Anyways, judging by the columbus tubing sticker and aero brake levers I'd guess the bike is early 90's. I'm also willing to bet those are 700c rims. As far as the components are concerned.....I've got no idea. Anyone else have a clue?

From what I can see, they are Presta valves, so they appear to be 700C. The frame appears to be very late 1980s or very early 1990s. The components could vary depending on the exact year. Those appear to be Athena and may be original. They certainly fit with the apparent era and level of the frame. What is your frame's serial number?

OK so the bike originally had mid level stuff on it, maybe even japanese.
I'd like to put a triple on it, with a 6 or 7 speed rear, and indexed shifting. Is this possible?
Any suggestions on how I could acheive this without spending an arm and a leg?
Was Shimano 600 or 105 stuff indexed?

Actually I havent decided if I'm going to bother going with indexed stuff or not.
I'm thinking Shimano 600 and I'll just use a set of suntour bar end shifters I have laying around.
However, can someone tell me what a good component group made by Campy would be for a late 80's, early 90's bike? In a way I'd kinda like to keep most of the parts italian, but not if the quality isnt going to be as good as the Shimano stuff.
What is the hierarchy of the Campy Component groups?
I found this for Shimano:

Just got some more info on how this frame was set up!

700c wheels. It was a six speed indexed setup with Shimano 600, and downtube shifters. Recessed mount brakes. It had a 170mm SR crank with a square taper loose ball BB. Italian threading, of course, and a 27.2 seat post. Post was not in good shape and is short. Headset seems OK, but I havn't taken it apart. Will have the original seat post binder bolt. There are guides for the brake cable brazed on the top tube, and there are braze-on shifter mounts on the down tube.

The Campagnolo Hierachy, from top to bottom, circa 1990 was Record, Croce d'Aune, Chorus, Athena and Xenon. However, Campagnolo from this era does not index very well, certannly not as well as Shimano. Campagnolo really didn't approach Shimano in indexed shifting performance until 1992.
To keep it Italian, good shifting, triple crankset and reasonably inexpensive, I'd be looking at late 1990s Campagnolo equipment, which means Athena or the lower Veloce or Mirage.

Next question:
The rear of my frame is 126mm. Can i spread it to 130mm? To do that do I just "manually" do it with brute strength, or is there some recommended method?
And once I get it to 130mm can I run a modern 10 speed setup?

Yes you can run 8/9/10sp modern after you do this.
You can even leave it at 126mm spacing and spread the stays a bit to get a 130mm in.

The Bianchi Squadra Showed up today:
as far as I can tell the serial number off the bottem bracket is HI - 2877. I got that off the bottom bracket. Does that tell me what year this is?

Over the past few days I threw a Shimano RSX group I took off of a $25 Diamonback road bike I found. The crank ended up getting stripped when trying to take it off, so I couldn’t use that. The shifters didn’t work, but after some work with WD40 and compressed air they now shift flawlessly, as least as far as I can tell with no chain or crank! The brakes were some crappy brand I never heard of, but I won a set of RSX calipers off of ebay that should be here soon. The seat is an old (and dry) leather job that was on my uo8 project. Seems like it will be comfortable, however it needs to be stitched since it flattens out when you sit on it.
I got the threadless adapter and stem from Performance.

I saw a carbon double crank in 175mm (my size) at Performance that I could get for $120. It was originally marked at 299. It’s the Forte Performance brand. Is it worth it? Does anyone have any experience with the Performance house brand stuff?

next question:
I've got my crank. A 175mm Shimano Ultegra triple I picked up recently on the cheap.
Can someone point me to a bottom bracket that will work with this? Italian thread, I know I need that. Aside from that I'm kinda clueless. That's the last part I need then I can get this baby all together. Can't wait!
