Newbie Bianchi question
Just picked up a biachi campione d'italia, celeste paint, columbia tubing, ofmega hubs, suntour cyclone 7000 rear suntour 5000 front, mondolo brakes, ofmega crank, Italmanubri bar, ambrosio rims, for 10 bucks. guy even through in a old cannondale bike stand for free. so far i got to true the wheels re wire the back brake give her new bar tape and a good cleaning. Can anyone tell me about this model?

It was a great buy for $10. That model name was used for a long time so it's "level" depends on the year. Columbus tubing is a good sign, the mix of Japanese (suntour) and Italian components seems a little odd, perhaps parts were swapped out. As long as the frame is not damaged you certainly did well. Enjoy the ride, it should be sweet.

Thanks, I really dont know the exact year...quite possibly 1990's maybe...it also has another sticker that says campion del mondo 1986-1987. I cant even find the serial number on it yet(got to clean it off)..both fork and frame are formula two columbus

Are the gear levers SunTour or Campag.? Is it full-Columbus, or Columbus Tre Tubi (main triangle)?
I have a 1981 Campione d'Italia; the serial number wraps around the seat lug, and original equipment included Ofmega cranks and hubs, Campag. NR derailleurs, and Modolo Speedy brakes. Mine has the Tre Tubi (3 main tubes = double-butted Columbus, rest = some lesser carbon steel, or as someone else suggested to me, seamed CrMo). Lugs (Campag. vs. other Italian brands) are another way to determine frame quality.

it uses columbus Tre Tubi on both the frame and fork also has a gipiemme seatpost....all in all alot of things are very italian. I'm thinking somewhere along the line someone put some japanese components on it since its just the front and rear Derailers. it probably was your bianchi minus the campy derailers. SN starts with 86somthing then ends with 93. Thanks for your help

I have a Campione d'Italia that I believe may be from 1989 (celeste, blue and red decals). It has Modolo quattro brakes, Ofmega Quattro cranks, and a rear derailleur marked Quattro (brand name rubbed off). However, it has a Shimano 600 FD and Suntour Accushift shifters (rear indexed). Ambrosio rims with hubs marked Quattro. Interestingly, Quattro is written the same font throughout. It has Columbus Cromor tubing and Gipiemme dropouts.
I have no idea if the components are original or not, but hope that it helps. Perhaps 80s Campione d'Italias did use a mixture of Italian and Japanese.
In any event, you made quite the score for $10.
