So, I'm working in the yard yesterday

and I hear someone calling me.

Fellow from up the street, frame and fork hanging over his shoulder.

Asks if I want it, it's mine if I can use it.

Colnago Mexico, frame, fork, headset, stem, Cinelli bars and Campy Bottom bracket. Uh, also, a Nuove Record front and rear derailleur.

I say - sure I guess I can use it.

Tells me he bought it in June 1980. Rode it every day to school and work and racing, for 15 years.

The frame is remarkably good, apart from the paint. Colnagos were an elegant looking frame back then. The stay points and lugs are beautiful.

I guess I have another project. It's Saronni Red, have to try and reproduce that.

You must live right. Is it your size? Wasn't the Mexico top of the line back then?

I didn't think so, but I must have done something right.

Funnily enough it is exactly my size and yes the Mexico was the top of the line back then.

As I think about I'm getting a bit excited about this.

Same thing happened to me this weekend! And then my wife, Morgan Fairchild, went for a ride with me after.

And then I woke up.

Some people have all the luck. Some of us have only our dreams...

I wasn't even looking for it!!

In case anyone is interested the fellow told me as were talking ( he spied my De Rosa) that the one on consignment at the local LBS is in fact his.

I have been looking it over - and holding myself back - it is a red Giro d'Italia. Chrome Head lugs from around 1995 ' ish.

Campy 8 speed, and very clean.

He told me to go down to the store and have the guys ( who I do favours for as well) give me a good deal on it.

It's 56 x 56.

I can't have it - I really can't. I've spent enough for now, and really trying to figure out the space issues.

But - if anyone , or two or three, are interested let me know and I can arrange shipping and what not.

I'm thinking if someone wanted the frame and fork and someone else wanted the 8 speed - etc.

I'll take it apart and pack it if people want to do it.

The only thing that happens when I'm working in the yard is that the neighbors will drive by and make wisecracks about my lawn.

This thread did inspire me to go out and mow the lawn.

No one came by with that 48 cm DeRosa, though .

Yep, soon people will be able to identify C&V members' homes by their impeccably mowed lawns.

Maybe If I leave my RoadMaster out front, someone will take pity on me?
