So far I've had pretty good luck with e-bay, eventhough I know I'm taking a chance. I wont deal with anyone with a score lower than 99 though. In March '06 I paid for a slightly used 8-speed 13-26 'Record' cassette from seller "tandems", and he sent me a cassette with only seven cogs. All the correct spacers were there, but It was missing the 26t sprocket. After emailing him about the discrepancy, he apologized and said he would refund my money, or send me a 12t sprocket w/ lock ring to change it to a 12-23 cassette.
I thought about it, and decided that since there's not any hills to speak of in pancake flat Florida, to just go along with the 12-23 conversion. He overnighted the 12t gear and lockring to me, and sure enough, the next day it was here. I thanked him and said I would send him back the 13t lockring gear because I did'nt need it. He said to just go ahead and keep it, so now if I find a loose 26t cog somewhere, I can switch back and forth between the two.
The point is, I may not have gotten exactly what I originally wanted, but the cassette was in near new condition, and I think I only paid $20 for it anyway. The seller made an honest mistake in the listing, but was very cooperative, so we worked it out among ourselves to a good ending.

I've really only had one bad ebay experience. Bought something, when it arrived, it was not as advertised. Contacted seller, he basically said too bad. Filed a complaint with ebay, I guess he never responded, so they kicked him off. 3 months later he was pleading with me to withdraw my dispute and offering a refund. I said, too bad.

Bad experience with an Ebay seller called azbikeagent

Months ago I posted about a very bad experience I had with a seller named AZBIKEAGENT. This is the guy from the Phoenix area who is an Ebay seller, who answered all my questions quickly pre-purchase, who cheerfully took my $$$ for some parts, and who then fell off of the earth w/o sending the parts. PayPal did their thing with him and refunded my $$$ after I was forced to file a claim against him. Lots of hassle for no good reason.
He popped up on another board recently after I posted a note on about his shabby business practices and claimed the parts had been "lost" by UPS. Interestingly, this is almost 5 months after the transaction. The funny thing was that he kind of neglected to mention this to me at any time over those 5 months!
One does indeed wonder why he could not have simply responded to my many emails requesting the parts and my invitations to call me, if the product was really "lost". He had my email address, several phone numbers, and my law office mailing address. Yet I heard nothing from him at all....ever....still to this day.
I never did find out who this guy really is. Interesting that the shakey ones spend so much time hiding behind a screen name and do their best to conceal real locations, names, and contact information.
The poor quality of and lack of credibility in his long after the fact excuse is the best evidence of what he really is. Careful with this one folks ....
