Schwinn Paramount: Pricing Question

I have a line on a 24" 1971 Chrome Schwinn Paramount P-15 in my size. The bike is not local but the seller sent printed pics for me to review. (Sorry no scanner!) He is the original owner and has agreed to ship the bike for $50. He says he has shipped and received many bikes so packing is not an issue.

The bike looks to be a B+ (A-F scale) and seems complete and original. He is asking $1,000 for the bike. Will not budge on price. I can raise the funds by selling other stuff I have accumluated so money is not so much of an issue. I do not "need" another bike but I can't stop thinkg about it.

I was wondering as to whether or not people here though the price was fair?

I think it's very fair, probably would sell for more on ebay.

Good price....if it is as he says it is...I have a line on a 25" version of same bike...he's asking $1900 and he doesn't budge on price....in fact, if I don't buy it soon it may go UP in price.....

I paid about $1300 on eBay for my '72 P15 and think I got a helluva deal. If it's in good shape, grab it.

I know exactly what you mean. Happened to me when a fellow BFer showed a picture of a Merlin!

Which, BTW, has been ridden about 6 miles so far. 4th gear only with just a font brake.

But don't worry if you don't get it. That just means a better deal/bike is in your future.

Wish I had sold YOU the pre-Raleigh Carlton that I found at a garage sale for $35.
It was too tall for me so I sold it a week later for $400.
That was just before I found BF's.

BD! Not another one! Fender, its a good price. It's an even better price if it has Campy brakes and levers. Don't hesitate too long.

Bob,

Thanks for your reply (and everyone else ) The bike has the Weinmann brakes and the large Campy (Gran Turismo) rear derailer. I have a comlete Campy NR group from the previous chrome Paramont I purched which was too big. Can the Campy brakes fit on this bike w/ fenders? I thought that was why they used the cenrter pulls-clearance issues? I have a set of NOS Schwinn Chome fenders as well.

I e-mailed the seller so I will wait to hear.

The P15 didn't have the Campy brakes option because of the fender clearance issue. 1971 was the last year they used the Gran Turismo RD; in '72 Schwinn switched to the rebadged Shimano Crane RD ("Le Tour GT300") on the P15 because they were less than saisfied with the Gran Turismo.

You're gonna love that bike!

That is a good price. How nice are the components? Paramounts as others have pointed out are in hot demand. You should snap the bike up before is is bought by someone else. Good luck.

Yes and Thanks. Scooper, what rear derailer did you switch too and why? I don't want to celebrate until it arrives safe & sound. When it does I will post pics. I think it will look great with the NOS Schwinn chrome fenders I have. I am still wondering if I can fit the Campy brakes w/ the fenders? Also the seller is including a frame pump and rear rack.

CONGRATS!! on the P'mount score.
Glad you haven't been binging so much as to depleat the crack bike funds to the point where you would've missed this beauty.

Looking forward to seeing the pics.
As I'm sure Scooper is too!

I switched to a new Campy Record long cage derailleur because it's much smoother operating than the GT300 (I'm still getting flack for doing that). Since the new derailleur is for ten cog cassettes, I had to modify the limit screws. There really wasn't anything wrong with the GT300 except it clattered a lot when I changed cogs. I've still got the GT300 for occasions when I want to make it more or less original (although I also replaced the 27" tubular rims with 700c Open Pro clincher rims, so it's not original in that respect either).

I put 40mm Berthoud aftermarket stainless fenders on mine and the Weinmanns don't have a clearance problem, but I think the only way you're going to find out if the Campys will work with the OEM fenders is to try it.

Congratulations!!!!

CRA-ZEE, man!

I have a pump that I may use for this bike as it has a campy presta valve attachement screwed on and campy mounts. The pump is all chrome and named Gran Prix (made in England) anyone heard of it? It has 3 or 4 colored bands around it. The seals seem shot. Can these be rebuilt?
