bridgestone MB-1
Got a very worn MB-1 the other day. I have it completely stripped down and now know that that even though the paint is pretty scuffed up, all the mechanicals will work just fine when cleaned and tuned up.
It has the strange deer head Shimano (someone just mentioned this type the other day) derailleurs, a Sugino triple, nice fenders, a one-piece stem-bar with a "V" connecting the two instead of a single neck, and mismatched wheelset on it.
A couple of questions:
-what rims/hubs were original on it?
-would I be voted out of the club if I converted it to a fixed gear?
-unconverted, and all tuned up, what would it be worth in less than mint shape?

Yeah, I remembered that name after I posted. They seem cool, but I have never used them.

I fear that this era mountain bike goes in the "restore it" camp, at least for me. The geometry during this era was really laid back (I don't know the technical term) like BMX bikes and they make for a super fun ride. The deer head stuff works well and I bet you will find it a pleasure. I have a 84 bike in original shape and I have an 88 Diamond back that I updated with better brakes/levers, fat 2.4 inch tires, a brooks seat, and riser bars (it came with stem/bars combo). I use it for errands and a couple of small trails and it rocks for both. If you can't stand the bullmoose bars I think updating the stem/bars/brake levers/grips will make the bike feel really new, but without losing the cool "feel" that these early bikes had.
