Amen! I was checking out the pic before I uploaded and thought the same thing. I believe it to be a 27.2, I'll have to check.

There's no such thing as 555SLT. There is SL, RSL, T, but not a mix other then those.

These are the following, official Raleigh USA tubing designations:

555RSL Maganese Molyebdenum
555SL Butted and Double Butted Cro-Mo
555T Triple (or was it double? Have to re-check my Raleigh Alyeska) Butted Cro-Mo
575SL Triple-Butted Cro-Mo
502 (High-tensile, if I recall right)
410 (Also high-ten)

The 1983 Prestige was a Nottingham-made, 531-tubed machine available only as a frameset. Came in bright red or blue metallic. In 1984, it became a black and chrome, Superbe Pro-equipped version of the Japanese-made, 555SL Raleigh USA Competition model, and remained so until 1985. In 1986, it became a near twin of the Team Pro, differing only by a maroon/red paint job as opposed to the traditional black/red, and with yellow-to-white fade downtube decals. This final incarnation, being a Nottingham product, was built with 531C.

Not sure if you can see it well in this photo, but the Raleigh sitting in the background of this Ciocc is an '86 Prestige, owned by BF member garth. Although this isn't too good a photo, you can see that it is essentially identical to a Team Pro.

Take care,

-Kurt

During this era, triple butted tubing was made by Ishiwata and Tange, in addition to Miyata.

So the bottom line of all this discussion is that 555RSL is a Reynolds tubeset, with the R being the Reynolds indicator? If the R isn't there on a 555 tubeset, then it's assumed to be non-Reynolds and probably a Japanese tubeset?
