Trek 520 Project Done!
Thanks to everyone who helped on the myriad of issues I had with this project. C&V is the best!
Specs: 24 inch 1984 520 NOS Ritchey 700c 36 hole wheelset (The anodized rims are bronze in the sun and match the frame perfectly...ah, the sweetness!). NOS SR stem 45cm Nitto bars Shimano aero levers seven speed friction MTB rear Derailleur unknown campy front derailleur stock cranks Brooks, conti 32 touring tires, etc. After some help from the ibob list (thanks) I went back to the original dia compe brakes and with no effort they went on and work excellent with the 700c wheels and some kool stop pads. Big Carradice saddle bag next and maybe some fenders for the winter. The bike has much more aggressive geometry than I thought it would, it is definitely not like the long wheelbase 720 (nor my Rivendell quickbeam) but this is a good thing as it will be my fast bike. Thanks again for all the help! http://farm1.static.flickr.com/197/4...0dc97d.jpg?v=0 http://farm1.static.flickr.com/195/4...072952.jpg?v=0 http://farm1.static.flickr.com/202/4...142617.jpg?v=0 http://farm1.static.flickr.com/224/4...79fbf7.jpg?v=0 |
Man, that turned out nice! My 1985 Trek 520 has alot shorter chainstays than yours. I'm wanting one of those long wheelbase bikes!

Beautiful! I love old Treks...

Thanks all!
Maybe we should start a "show us your vintage Trek" thread? I'd have to figure out how to post pictures that show up on the page first! |
Go for it Swen!

Also, your photo hosting website might have a series of address formats under your images (I use photobucket, and it does.) So, it will give you a URL address, and HTML tag for that URL (good for posting ads on Craigslist), and an IMG code for that URL. The IMG code is what you can copy and paste into forum boards like this to get an image to display. It's basically doing the same thing as using the "Insert Image" icon above, but with fewer steps. Great idea about the Trek thread...I hope to have my Trek completed soon to post. Here, I cut and pasted one of your links above, clicked the Image icon...and presto! http://farm1.static.flickr.com/197/4...0dc97d.jpg?v=0 Hey, it didn't work  And I spent 5 minutes of my life typing the above... |
There you go....
