Need Help on PUCH (newbee)
 

I love your forum. I was tired of pedaling my slicked up Mountain Bike to work and was looking for a road bike. Anyway, I was fortunate enough to pick up two PUCH 100years 10 speed bicycles. Not Campy but brand spanking new (right out of the box). It is a Cavalier with "special PUCH 482 Tubing" Components are Weinmann 610 / vainqueur999 and the cranks say SR SAKAE chainwheel on the nuts and SR meltforging on the arms. The kickstand says ESGE/UZ/PLETSCHER on it. It is a 10 speed. I read some previous forums and hope that I provided enough information for you.

I'm planning on riding one and doing something with the other.

Should I store it in the attic for a 100 more years, ride it, sell it????

puch bikes from 1907? Wow, thats old. You should fix one up and sell one to me for very cheap. Or make on a roadie, one a fixed gear.

Hi Clancy... I bought the bikes at an estate auction. The bikes were in there origional boxes I think. Because the bikes were stored so nicely inside and wrapped in a particular type of paper. The "100 years" bike... must mean that it is an anniversery bike. It's older, I'm just not sure how old it is. Looking for any information on them.

I'm going to pick up one at the bike shop in about an hour. I'm not too mechanical and was in a hurry to ride it. Talk to you later. -FF

I think they are 1972 models. I have 2 Puchs with the 100 years stickers, one Royal X that's butted 531 and one Brigadier with the Special 482 tubing. They both also have a 72 stamped in the seat lug, which I imagine yours does too.

I would advise against fixed gear, you'd do better with a different frame for that matter and a complete bike is worth more to most and is a more versitile bike. That Puch though not Campy is more than an OK bike. It's a forged aluminum alloy cotterless crank, the rims are aluminum not steel,I'm not familiar with that specific tubing but it says Puch,My Puch was labled Puch also,it was and was stated as being a type of chromoly as opposed to hi-tens. steel. The bike was in fact a $270 to $300 bike in it's day.the bike is post 1976 but pre 1980. What size,what color,don't sell it yet please.

It is a blue 10 speed PUCH. I have to measure it properly (suggestions?). The bike shop guy said the bike was for someone 6ft or taller. The guy at the bike shop said what you did (it was probably a $300 bike in it's day). I looked under the seat (something "BREW" made in Italy) was on the underside of the seat. I did not see the size or the year though. I will take out the post a little later tonight.

The other bike is a yellow one with some kind of fancy handle bars that say Japanese champion on them. I have to look at that bike a little closer. It is a puch, but the tires are french made and the back derailer area is definately different from the other bike. Should be interesting. -..

I won't sell it yet. I'd rather a bike enthusiast get an old bike.

The cranks and rims are a cut above a Peugeot UO-8, but I am unfamiliar with 482 frame tubing. Steyr-Daimler-Puch made a full range of bikes including some distinguished top-end models, but even the cheapo Steyr Clubmans weren't too bad. Austrian bikes are cool. :)

I believe that "100 years" refers to the incorporation of Steyr and not Puch. Steyr, Austria has long been a center of metal and firearm manufacturing and was incorporated in the year 1864, according to Tom's Steyr website. I don't know what the website is right offhand but Tom is a Dutch Steyr fan and and I think he is even a collector of Steyr automobiles and trucks, which were built up to around 1939.

I'll have to do some more research on this subject since it's been awhile when I looked all this up. The Steyr website has a history of the Steyr company but is in German only and they just make firearms. Tom's site has the history translated into English.

Thanks for the info...I just picked up 8 more of the similar type of bike. Most have different colors though. One says Champion Racer on the handle bars and has some different components. I guess I'll head to ebay with them. They are all in their original boxes. What a crazy pick up.

Any suggestions besides e-bay?

Here's a suggestion: take some good pics and post here on the For Sale thread...easier to reach a lot of Vintage cycle fans and without the eBay fees.:D

I have a Puch Cavalier and I think it's great. I suggest riding it. If not, I can think of someone here who might be interested, heck I may be interested depending on the price.
