What are they worth?
I have a couple of bikes that I want to sell, and wonder what they might be worth. Real selling price for central Ohio, not any theoretical "collector's value," not that they probably have any.
One is a 1976 St. Etienne road bike. It doesn't seem to have a serial number. I've had it since it was new and put a lot of miles on it. It was originally set up as a racing bike, but I've modified it to be more like a touring setup. Over the years I've changed every component on it except the handle bars. 61 cm seat tube (24 in) and 102 cm wheelbase (40 in). 700c wheels, 15 speed with 34-15 rear, 50-45-34 front. Paint has some scapes. Needs chain and possibly pedals.
The second is an Atala tandem. I bought the frame used in 1981 and built it from the ground up otherwise. I even laced the wheels myself, though I had a shop tension and true them. The serial number is 75A1013. It's a 22/21 mixte rear (56 cm/53 cm) Wheel base is 65 in (165 cm). 15 speed gears, 14 - 34 rear, 47-42-28 front. 27x1.25 wheels, Mafac cantilever brakes. Needs chain, and should have a new headset. I haven't put a lot of miles on this bike myself. They say that a tandem will either cement your marriage or destroy it, and it nearly destroyed mine.

Due to knee and back trouble I can't ride these bikes myself any more, and my son doesn't have any interest in them. If anyone has advice, I'm open to it.
Thanks,
Steven K. Smith

Welcome to BF. The pics are too small to make out enough details such as frame tubing, component quality, etc, and that will make a big difference.
St. Etienne was a mid-range marque according to Sheldon Brown, and just based on that I'll say $150, but it might be anywhere from $50 to $300 depending on the components/tubing.
Atala made a wide range of bicycles from hi-ten tubing to Columbus, so need more info here, too. I know nothing of the market for tandems. Maybe someone else on here could give you a starting point.

The previous poster made some good points.
Also critical to value is your location, especially for the tandem since shipping the tandem can be expensive.
From casual observation, tandems seem to sell for a minimum of $200+ from what I have seen, although I don't know the market.

The St Etienne originally had a sticker on it in French that said, if I remember, Reynolds 531 trois tubes reinforceés. I'm assuming that meant the three main tubes were double butted. I had it repainted in about 1980, so I have no proof of this at this point. Components are decent but not great. Has Dura Ace side pull brakes, Sugino Maxi crank set, a nicer (not plastic) Simplex derailleur, and Shimano low flange hubs laced to Rigida 13/20 rims. I hope that all made sense, it's been more than twenty years since I was really into all the mechanics and I'm going by memory.
The Atala has no stickers identifying the tubing. The guy I bought it from said it was Columbus. Suntour Cyclone rear derailleurs, Spirit front derailleur, Sugino AT Crank set rear, Nervar Star connecting the stoker. Shimano high flange hubs Rigida rims.
Thanks for the help.
