Wish me well on Paramount Acquisition

I've scratched up $850 by flipping lots of bikes over the last 6 weeks and am scheduled to pick up my 86 Paramount, perl white with full Dura-Ace group. I won't believe it until I'm taking the maiden ride.

Wish me well on my attempt to join the club

p.s. I picked up a very interesting Marin Stinson 93 hybrid today - matte gray finish with lime forks and handlbar. Marin saddle, 700 wheelset. p.p.s. Sold to another BFer, exchanged wheelset - kept one for studded tires on Raleigh

My wife is throwing a snit about my bike time so I have to back off for a while [doesn't even know about the 3 I bought yesterday].
The seller is a pack rat & yard sale guru - he's got dozens of vintage bikes - in various states of disrepair. He also has dozens of fishing reels, rods, and a couple vintage cars.

Pictures as picked up - not assembled - but still pristine BTW - these are thumbnails - click on them for a detailed image. Click on the screen-sized image for a BIG image.

If he wants to part with them, Sterling is not far from me. I am looking at picking up a project or 2 or something turnable.

Great Paramount find Robtown! I'd say that is a number of step ups from a Univega Sportour!

Check out my 1990 carbon fiber wrapped aluminum lugged Miyata ss/fixie I just finished. I was going to ride it today but had to drive to pick up the Paramount. One of the few reasons to drive!
It hit 100F today so a SS might have been a bit rough

Thanks.

He had sold it on ebay and packed it up for shipping - then the man's wife found out. He listed it on craigslist and had a dozen requests to hold it / not enough money / wife (guess who) so he took the ad down. I emailed in May and he still had the bike. Two large community yard sales and craigslist supplied a dozen bikes and parts to flip. I don't have the magic mountain of neglected and unloved bikes to pick over like you do

I am often surprised that some item on Craigslist that I think should have sold before I responded is still available, sometimes weeks after the ad ran. Short attention span from the prospective buyers or something like that, sometimes you get lucky and can use it to your advantage.

I recently picked up a pair of Campy NR high flange hubs with straight skewers for $40, but it took about 2 weeks for us to actually connect. Then he brought a bunch of other misc. stuff, like axles and cones and a bunch of assorted headsets (not all Campy) that I also bought for another $20, and a Super record seat post that I got for $10!

I love Craigslist!

Robtown, EXCELLENT SCORE!! I too recenlty got a deal on a Paramount off of CL. Chrome 1972 P-15. The seller included a rack and nice vitnage frame pump. That is the kind of stuff that does not happen (usually) on ebay purchases. Buy on CL sell on ebay.

I too earned the money by flipping bikes (and I am still flipping some right now! ) to pay for the Paramount. As for your wife's negative view of your biking activies,(you have mentioned it a couple of times) I reccomend the following, as my wife is now my biggest biking advocate, after initially feeling like a "C&V Widow":

1. Build her a bike and get her to ride (easy rides) with you. I put a Nexus 7 speed internal hub w/ a coaster brake in a nice old Raliegh Supercourse Mixte for her. She loves it! Also if you have kids, include them. I bought my 5 year old son a trail-a-bike and my one year old a trailer. We ride as a family on weekends.

2. If she has any interets at all explian the economics of the transactions to her. This helped my wife understand that I was not just buying "old junk". * It helps to SELL what you buy.

3. Buy something for her/you as a couple. My incesant bike flipping has helped us afford a week in Cape May NJ (Family Vacation) which is somthing my wife was looking forward to. I am the primary earner and my wife stays home with the kids and we were not sure if we could afford to do it this year. Now we can and my wife is very clear on where the extra $'s came from.

4. Your own health. Staying in good shape for the one you love has..ahem..its own rewards if you know what I mean.

Again execllent score and good luck. YMMV

OOOOH... AHHHH... Pretty! I, too, scored a beautiful 1974 Paramount for a song on Craigslist. Gotta love CL. Welcome to the club! Can't wait to see pics of it built.

HA! I guess just a few of us can take advantage of the quirkiness of small rural New England towns and their dump habits. Top506 has a simular set-up. While we excell in dump finds, we are challenged in the CL area. Take a look at Bikes CL NH. Slim pickens and the item could be hours away. I've only scored twice. First I bought a new (mounted and then removed) Brooks B-17 for $25 + shipping. And then last week picked up this '64 Collegiate for $60. This was the reintroduction year for this model. Schwinn had made a SS version in the early '50s. I believe I can flip this one and make a few $$$. Maybe I'll buy fenders for my wife's electric MTB.

I've finally had a few hours to clean and assemble the Paramount. I only needed to wipe with a clean Tshirt, then apply Turtle wax ICE polymer [great stuff]. Some frame saver in the tubes, grease, and teflon spray lubricant. The tires cleaned with windex

I'll post completed pictures tomorrow when I can get some good morning sunshine.
