bike size vs inseam
 

This topic has been brought up sporadically on thread but I was just wondering, what size of bike do you typically ride, and what is your inseam? It appears some people like a lot of room for error, and others like a snug fit. Personally I have a 34" inseam, and like bikes in the 56-58 cm range.

I have a 32 inch inseam and like bikes between 58cm & 62cm.

I think it's a 28 inch inseam, 49cm is the maximum size I can safely ride.

I have am ~36.5" cycling inseam (though I wear 32-34" leg jeans)... I like 62cm c-c.... anything smaller the the drop to the handlebars starts to become to large and I start to feel cramped in the cockpit. I am about 6'3.5" to be precise. I have had my left leg SHORTENED by 2cm to more closely match the right. And I like 175-180mm cranks. 58-59cm top tubes and 115-130mm stems depending on application. standover on my 62cm frames ranges from around 33.5-almost 35".

Depends on what you consider your inseam. I used to believe mine was 32, it's not. When I finally measured it correctly, I determined it's 33.25,give or take a few millimeters. For years I rode a 21"(53cm) which was what was available. 23" (28cm) was a little too high, felt too big underneath me but rideable. Since most bikes the past twenty years come in 56cm along with others of course, it suits me,55 as well. Seems like many guys that are way taller ride 56, 54 even,seems small. At 5"10" ,my inseam is relatively short I think so do data bases. I don't fender 1, either you like a big frame or your inseam is actually longer, if you're over 5'11" I'd bet longer.

I've done similar calculations for some female clients of mine, the frame size you've ascertained does ,in fact, seem correct young lady, going by concensus that is. Too small of frame renders one less efficient.

I am 6' with a 33" inseam and I use a 55cm top tube (56cm ST) bike w/ a 12cm, 90 degree stem. I also use a 175mm crank.

My pubic bone height is 35" (I wear 32" inseam pants), and ride/own bikes that are 56cm to 60cm, measured center of crank to top of seat tube. My preference is for the larger end of that range. For years I rode a 57cm bike, but once I bumped up to 59/60cm, I found true comfort.

I know what you mean. I also have a 24" trek (61cm?) and find it very comfortable. However, I prefer the 56cm when sprinting.

all sound really on the same page concerning this question. It's just that inseam (pant) get confused by some with anatomic inseam (PBH). The subject does come-up quite often. It took me twenty years to get a grip on it. Fortunately for many newer riders,it's made more clear, due to all of you of course.

i guess i will clarify my measurements. I wear a 32 pant inseam, actual height is 34 inches

I have 32" pant inseam, and ride a 55cm c-c (square) bike. I'm 5'10".
I prefer a short stem (80mm) to ride upright on the bar tops. I guess I have a short torso... On a 56cm top tube + 90mm stem I fell steched a bit.

I have a 33" inseam and ride 60cm frames and use 175mm cranks.

31" inseam, 52 cm. modern geometry, 54 - 56 traditional.

My PBH is ~31.75 inches. I'm 5'10''. I ride a 54 cm c-c, w/170 cranks. Short legs, long torso.

I wear a 30" trouser inseam and 55cm C-T is my size in a traditional road bike frame. My saddle height looks right to me, although I expose too little seatpost by some modern standards and too much by some earlier standards.

I'v got a 30" pants inseam, and like 56/57cm bikes. Long torso, Barney Rubble legs.

I don't know my "cycling" inseam, but I wear 30" pants. Thinking about the way I've set up my bikes, I think that if I had a custom bike built for me it would be 53cm ST c-c and 55 TT c-c.

30" pants inseam. Prefer a 32.5" standover height (max). Top tube 56 or 57cm (c-c).

6'5" with a 36" inseam, and I ride 63 to 65cm bikes...

Funny, I can comfortably ride about 62-64cm. My comfortable standover is about 32-33 inches depending on the shoes I'm wearing. I'm 6' 1" and find myself more comfortable on larger frames than should fit me. A frame can feel just about right in leg length, but I very often find the top tube too short. A real shame, since the Prelude I just finished is one of them. I like to stretch out a bit on top, and it absolutely drives me nuts when the bars feel too close. I guess I have normal legs but a long torso? Probably the same reason I cannot keep a shirt tucked in, lol.,,,,BD

6', 34" inseam (87cm), PBH 88.5 cm, like big bikes...63 x 59cm...25", '71 Paramount...perfection!!.
