Yet another possibility. Bike with PT on the seat stay?
A very nice looking bike at the pawn shop, and it's priced accordingly at $399. I still can't decide
if it's worth that to me, but no markings on the frame so I thought I'd ask. It has newer looking down tube shifters with a slight bend in them. The paint is a seafoam green, but might be a repaint. Unfortunately I was working at the time and only a couple of things caught my eye in that short time. One of which is a vertical stamping on the upper seat stay by the seat cluster. Has a "PT" and that is the only identifying mark. No metal pedigree, brand name, or model. I imagine it's something nice, as it looks pretty high end.,,,,BD

I couldn't get a real good look at the other components, or even the cranks. It was hanging tightly against the window and I was looking at it from the inside of the store. It looks like it might have been updated, as they looked more modern than the style of the bike. I'm almost certain it was lugged. I have more time Saturday, I will go by and ask if they can take it down for a better look.,,,,BD

Clearly it was custom built for Pete Townshend. Rock on!

Wow, I thought for sure someone would guess the maker right off, from the PT. I imagine they're initials of the company (or person) that built it? Like where a Trek has the name indented in the upper seat stay, it's right there. If they don't try to put me in cuffs, I will attempt a picture of it.,,,,BD

I went and looked at it again, and I'm thinking it's a PJ with a heavily crossed upper case J, or maybe even PG? Hard to tell. A line curls around under the bottom letter, and obscures what it may actually be.

They put a new label on it, and claim it's a Pinarello. The upper seat stay might lead me to believe that, but the rest of the lugs and construction look like standard Japanese fare. The BB lugs are pointed, so it may be the truth. Is a steel Pinarello in complete but uncared for and repainted condition worth $400?,,,,BD

I can post some pics of my 87 pinarello for comparison. It's a steel lugged frame with all original components. Just say what you need and I'll try to get a pic tommorrow or wednesday. "PT" might stand for Pinarello Treviso, which would make sense, as it seems to be a fairly common branding thing with them, even with bikes that aren't the "Treviso" model.

Cool, just some closeups of lugs should help. and maybe an overall? I really don't think I want to drop $400 on it, but I'm willing to play the waiting game and see if it drops. It has extremely dirty and mistreated Shimano Sora components, or the RD at least. I wouldn't give more than 200, but that's just me.,,,,BD

Here's some pictures for you, hope it helps. 1987 Dolomite, Shimano 105 components. I believe this is the lower end "Cadore" frame, with Columbus Matrix/Cromor tubing. No "PT" markings on mine, but there is a sort of trident logo below where the rear brake is mounted, as well as on a downtube lug. Sora? I don't know if I'd pay $400 either.
