    Glued clinchers

I have an '78 Panasonic with (original I think) Panasonic 90 tires. The only odd thing is when I pulled one off it seems to have been glued at the bead on both sides.
The wheels are 27" araya rims with no hook edge so I guess they might've been glued for extra security.
Out of curiosity was this common, and should I bother regluing them (the one I took off seems fine)?

My guess is that it is NOT glued, just 30 years of rubber decay bonded to the rim. I see that on the old beaters I flip. I try to clean it as best as possible so the bead sets better.

I swear I have seen the same thing on other vintage tires.

I saw it on an old schwinn 3 speed I took apart last year. I'm quite sure it was from rot and decay.

    What they said.

Why are you sitting indoors contemplating tires and rims? You should be outdoors, enjoying the weather and swimming up and down the street.
The search for inner peace continues...
