Mystery trash find...Chimo Concourse
 

I pulled a bike out of the trash that I have never heard of and came up with nothing on a google search.

The bike appears to be a Chimo Concourse. It's been sticker bombed so I just peeled away enough to read.I'll post better pics after I clean it up a bit.

It's lugged steel with stamped dropouts and no tubing sticker. Suntour stem shifters and rear derailer, falcon fron, diacompe centerpulls, and what looks like a Moxy (?) crankset. Sunshine hubs laced to Araya rims (with one broken spoke) Acovet touring saddle.

There is surface rust on the frame and the freewheel is frozen up, but other wise it looks like it just needs a spoke and a good cleaning. It even had a planet bike blinky in great condition...just what I needed!

Here's the whole bike. It looks like It has chrome fork ends that got painted over.

While cleaning it, I found a Made in Hong Kong sticker. Nobody has any info?

Doesn't ring a bell, but it cleaned up well. (I didn't really mean for that to rhyme.)

That bike sure has an unusual geometry. The bottom bracket looks way high.

Saw a Chimo on ebay the other day, a Mixte. Went for pretty cheap,,

I think I'm going to convert it to a fixie. There's no braze ons, it's got a high bb, and I'll probably get more for it that way. I've got a cheap wheelset on my fixie now and I might just put it on this frame, clean it up and sell it for the price of a new upgraded wheelset (plus maybe another $60 to finance a b17 for my bike)

I have a Chimo. It is stock and yellow in color. I purchased it from a school rumage sale about 15 years ago. It looks like the blue one pictured. I know nothing about bikes. Would this be considered a quality bicycle? I'm thinking about starting to ride for exercise. I'm wondering if I should put any money into it or bring it to the Good Will. It has a rusty chain surface rust on some of the chrome and wheels in spots and it could probably use new cables and stuff. But it is in working order. It could definately use some new tires and tubes.

I have found no info on this bike either and I also have a Chimo Concourse. Given to me for free. It's just like yours but red. I actually like it. It's very similar to my Schwinn Traveler. And it's in the same large size as my Traveler which fits me perfect. And yes, the forks should have chrome on the lower half. It was really weird. I bought the Traveler last year and 2 weeks later the Chimo is given to me. Both red. Almost all the same components. Frame measures the same size. They weigh within 2 pounds of each other. I'm like, cool, now I have two!

Does anyone know, are those dull silver Araya rims alloy? My Schwinn clearly has chromed steel. I assume the alloy rims are what makes the Chimo slightly lighter than the Schwinn.

Chimo was the brand of a company called Interex Industries, located in Vancouver BC. I've seen Japanese sourced models. Yours appears to be an early to mid-1970s entry level model. You can get date codes off the SunTour derailleurs and Sugino Maxy crankset, which you use to narrow down the year. See http://www.vintage-trek.com/component_dates.htm for interpreting the codes. Let us know whar you find.
