It is with great pleasure that I show you all my at-long-last (it's taken me almost 5 years!) finished vintage touring bike - a 1975 Peugeot PX60.

With my first ever touring holiday starting tomorrow - 300kms over 5 days along the coast on the Inner Sea of Japan from Yamamguchi, via Hiroshima to Okayama - I got the Peugeot out 2 weeks ago in order to ride it every day and give it a thorough going over. The main changes are wider mudguards, a wider range front derailleur, wider and more parallel handlebars and a shorter stem. Also, a few months ago, as a result of reading about such conversions here on C&V, I moved the DT Retrofriction levers to an old pair of Shimano pods on the ends of the bars making for very easy gear-changing. The result of all these changes is a beautifully smooth and comfortable ride.
As well as fitting the Bluemels Lightweight guards I've tapped out the mudguard eyelets on the Simplex dropouts at the rear to 6mm to match the front end eyelets in the Tange forks, as well as tapping the fastening holes in the Blackburn rack - this is in response to losing a Blumels butterfly nut on a 7 hour ride back in the summer. I reckon with the 2 threaded holes and a good spring-washer the bolts are less likely to back out. The bolts are 4mm Allen bolts.
As I'm flying to Yamaguchi from Tokyo with my bike I bought a very nice flight bag, made by Ostrich - their OS-500 model. It retails here for around $150 and is very well made. However, it's only 'just' big enough for this 59cm frame, with the saddle and seat post removed, so probably wouldn't suit anyone with anything bigger. A problem, of course, is what to do with the bag when I get there. The bag already folds into a 44cm X 80cm 'slab' and I have found that it will fold once more over the rear rack. Another alternative would be to send it on to Okayama from Yamaguchi and pick it up when I arrive 5 days later.

1984 Panasonic Touring Deluxe.. just sold this the other day to a student. I don't know if they will tour but hopefully will get some good utility riding out of it

1987 TREK Cirrus 520. 24 inch 531 butted main tubes. 45.5 cm chainstays with 73.5/73 degree angles
and 5.2 cm fork rake. All original components except 27" Matrix Titan-T wheels replaced with 40/36 spoke 27" Mavic M40, 44 cm Nitto Randonner bars and Nitto Technomic quill stem, MKS Urban platforms. Original 6 speed SIS shifters moved to barends using Rivendale pods. Original Uniglide 14-28 freewheel and NOS UG chain shifts beautifully. Accessories are a Mirrycle mirror and Zimbale saddle bag. Very comfortable and fast.

Looks cool!
I love those Mirrycle mirrors for the non-aero levers. It puts the mirror in just the right place for a glance over.
I've tried the bar end mirrors, the clip on mirrors and the clamp on mirrors. The non-aero is the best. The stretchy clamp Mirrycle is OK clamped just under the brake levers, but it's a little low to be perfect.

1985 Miyata Six Ten
This is my nearly finished Six Ten purchased this past fall. After the photo was taken I stumbled across a 1/2 off sale on Brooks bar tape (honey, to match the saddle). The pic is taken inside because it's been below zero here in Minnesota. Can't wait for spring. By then I'll have a pair of 1 1/4 Paselas on it (presently it's still sporting the stock tires and tubes, with maybe a few hundred miles of wear).

The front low rider rack was built by Alex Singer but is not detachable.

Very handsome bike! 650b tire size I assume. If the front rack is not detachable, how and where is it attached? Would love to see more close-ups.

What size is it? Although the pump changes things- it looks like the space inside the "triangle" is small- or that's a REALLY big water bottle.

I can't hardly wait for spring as well. I've scored the touring bike bounty over the holidays- I'll get nice pix as soon as everything is cleaned up and put together.

Thanks, GB. I have the hoods on (Cane Creek light brown). Not entirely satisfied with the fit, as the base of the hoods don't come all the way down to the bars, but probably the best I'll be able to do. I'm going to put the (black) Blackburn rear rack that it came with back on and will probably hunt for a black Blackburn FL-1 for the front. The bottle cages I'm looking at are the King Cage Iris at Rivbike.

I haven't posted this here yet. For your consideration My 1983 Univega Gran Turismo. Got it in pretty rough shape for a song. I completely refurbished the bike but I'm going to change the drivetrain to indexing and lower the gearing. I've got some clamp on Shimano DT shifters, an indexed long cage derailleur, and a 48-38-28 Takagi Tourney crankset that will be installed. Hope you like it.

What levers are on your bike?
Velo Orange has hoods for the 204 style levers.

I haven't posted this here yet. For your consideration My 1983 Univega Gran Turismo. Got it in pretty rough shape for a song. I completely refurbished the bike but I'm going to change the drivetrain to indexing and lower the gearing. I've got some clamp on Shimano DT shifters, an indexed long cage derailleur, and a 48-38-28 Takagi Tourney crankset that will be installed. Hope you like it.
