Date my Schwinn Mesinger?
I just got a vintage Schwinn FOR FREE! It needs some work but it's not bad at all. I've found that it looks to be a Schwinn Mesinger (ok sorry seat manufacturer) with added sadle baskets and the original colour seems to be blue. The tires are really bad but they say Schwinn on them so I'm thinking of keeping them. The handlebars also say Schwinn and we found what looks to be a serial number: DB12530. The frame and the wheels are 24" so I'm guessing it's a girls' bike. Aside from that, I'm not sure of anything. Can anyone guess a date from the following pictures? Any other information you can give is welcome as well =)

I believe if the serial is DB12530 then the bike was made April 1966. . .D=April B=1966. . .I think at least. Looks like a cool bike!

Nice find, hope you can make it a good rider. I'm no expert on these but it looks like it may have parts from different eras. As for the frame, look for the serial# on the rear dropout. Here's one Schwinn serial# reference online ( https://oldroads.com/sh_sn.asp ); there may be others. Good luck! -Rich

I think you're right about it being a Hollywood but I'm pretty sure it's a 66. Thanks everyone for answering my questions. Keep the information coming!

Never seen that basket set with the curved part to match the fender curve. VERY cool! Looks like a nice project. Here's what happens when a Hollywood, truly goes Hollywood, lol. 1950's Hollywood anyway.,,,,BD

whoo. What kind of spoke wrench do you need to trut those wheels?
I would guess hollywood as well...I put one together for a lady last winter, although I'm not much smarter than I was when I started...just the mechanic. She knew all about it - found it in her home town in Nebraska - beat a painter into perfectly matching the original pink paint - watched me hawklike to make sure it didn't get scratched while I put it together for her - and then installed it in her living room.

If you're interested in the basket I'm probably going to sell it. That is a really funky bike! If I weren't a sucker for originallity I would definately be using it as inspiration. Maybe I'll find another Hollywood I can play with =)

Mine was a 74 model, so the originality wasn't a high priority really. All of the original parts were toast as well. As long as the price is reasonable, I'd love to have it!! It would look awesome on my 55 Vette. It's a beater type but mostly original, stainless fenders and all.,,,,BD
