.....easily over a grand. 3Rensho track frames in good condition alone can fetch over a thousand.

(it would make me sad but) parting it out might make more money. That said, I'd ride it

I've got to stop coming to this forum. It's too depressing, especially after spending the day going around to garage sales and finding NOTHING!

(Oh, congrats on the sweet find. I'm just jealous.)

It looks like a mid-80's Specialized headset. The crankset is Specialized too.

By the way, the outer chainring should be rotated so that the pin fits behind the crank arm. It's there to prevent the chain from getting jammed if it gets derailed to the outside.

What size? If it fits I'll double...no I'll triple your investment and offer you $60. The early Specialized frames were pretty nice. With the campy you will be able to restore it and have a real classic. Lugged?

Yes, it's official. I hate you.

Definitely an early one, +1 for American Flyers.

I backed out of an auction for one a couple months back, and here you go finding one for $20. Man!

Yes.

Very nice bike, but definitely not a $1000 bike.

3rensho

I have yet to see anything that documents this bike as a 3Rensho, she may not be worth a grand but I finished the project and she looks like a million to me. Pictures will be posted Thursday, my camera is out of town.

I'm pretty sure that's a 3Rensho. The really long, narrow lugs are very distinctive, Shimano dropouts are correct, Tim Neeman decal is right. Does it have the offset fork crown (centerline of fork ahead of center line of head tube)? I'd bet cash money that's a 3Rensho-built Allez.

Specialized

Yes, it is offset, and it appears that entire fork is chrome ( she has a few spots where the paint has flaked off).

That, my friend, is a verifiable 3Rensho built Allez. You are one lucky person. That definitely qualifies for deal of the century - though we're pretty early in the century. It's really a beautiful bike. Another tip-off is that the red paint seems just a little darker and richer than some of the later red Allez's - but that can be hard to distinguish from photos.
