I'm a little biased, since I own an 85 model SS.
It came with all 600, but it now sports a refitting with the entire 9 speed group and rims off of an 05 Scott Speedster. It really is a sweet handling and riding bike.
I think it actually gained a little weight with the swap, but not enough to feel sluggish. The mid to late 80's
Schwinns are some of my favorite bikes ever made. Nicely made with quality tubing, and very good components in their respective price ranges.,,,,,BD
