There has been some good stuff on Portland Craigslist this week, but my luck hasn't been so hot. First, I was the 2nd caller on a nicely maintained one owner late 70's Nishiki Gran Rally, chrome forks and dropouts, my size,40 bucks. The buyer flipped it the next morning on Craigslist for $160!

Then it was a Surly Long Haul Trucker, again my size, with upgraded Dura Ace for $390. I was right behind a girl who was test riding and if it didn't fit it was mine. Of course, it fit her

Then yesterday a very sweet and well-maintained purple Paramount went for $290 to the guy right ahead of me. Not my size but hey, sure I could have found someone to make happy

My day will come.

I sell bikes occasionally and when I post a bike on Craig's List I keep a list
of responders. It hasn't been unusual for me to get to the 5th or 6th person
before I get someone to show up. I don't think I have ever had someone show
up and not buy, but it is good to get your name on the list. Of course if it is
such a deal that the person can flip it for three times as much the next
day...

Plus I sell almost as many bikes to people who post "wanted" listings. They
are much more reliable.

Same here. Once they show up, they usually buy. It's amazing how many people are excited over the phone, but want you to hold it til' next week when they have time to come around and look at it. I always respond with thats fine if none of the five other responders buys it by then. I almost always hear "I'll be right over" once they hear that response.

mtmann, I've been there. Showed up at a yard sale while the competition is wheeling the 10-speed he just bought right past me. I was pursuing a couple of Fuji Espree's on CL a month ago. The guy said he would send me his contact info. Two weeks later he sent me an e-mail saying they were sold after he never sent the information. It's frustrating.
IMHO, keep at it, some day you'll be the one loading the bike on your rack as someone else pulls up and asks "Is the bike sold yet?"
