front fork question

I bought an 80s bottecchia on ebay, pretty good condition except it came with a carbon fork. The seller did not have the original fork. I would like to eventually get a steel fork to match the frame, chrome would be nice. The frame is 53cm, the steer tube of the carbon fork is 15cm I believe. Can I get a fork from a larger size frame and have the steer tube cut/rethreaded, or should I look only for properly sized forks? Thanks -

Cut & rethread is ok, if you can find a shop to do it.
