Huffy Tandem Handle Bars?

I picked up this Huffy Tandem over the weekend and my daughter and I have been riding it, She rides in the back and When I ride the Front I have to sit forward because my Butt won't fit between the rear Handle bars, are the Handle Bars in the wrong spots?? Reversed from front to rear ??

It looks as if your cranks could stand to be synchronized. The captian's crank is running about 3 teeth late.
