Derosa neo primato, worth the price?

Hi! Sunday, I am supposed to go see (buy?) a 1997 Derosa Neo Primato equipped with campy record titanium. It is supposed to be in excellent condition. The color is a sort of faded blue (I dont know if I describe this properly, I havent seen the bike yet) and the bike has a chrome fork. The guy is asking a lot more than I am used to pay for bike ($1200 cdn).He says he paid $6000 or the bike at the time but I doubt it. I really like Derosa and I might keep it but I would like to know if its a good deal or not. I know this is not exactly a vintage bike but I tought some of you might know the value of a bike like that,or have an opinion. Thanks a lot!

Caterham,
He *may* have paid $6000 CDN in 1997 for it. That would be around $4000 US, and that is possible, depending on wheelset, etc.

I certainly don't know of a nicer bike that can be had for $1200, US or CDN!

OK, I get it so its a good deal... If its in decent shape I will take it, but you never know with people...last week, I got offered a lejeune in good shape, when I saw the pictures i laughed, the front portion of the bike was covered by rust . The best part is that he wanted $400-500 for the thing. Anyways I dont think it will be the case this this time, when I inquired about the condition he said there was MAYBE one scratch...somewhere on the frame... He also said he has other bikes and some of them are fixed gear ( track bikes? : ) ). Also, would anyone happen to have a picture of this bike with the same paint scheme? Oh and and I will post pictures of the bike if I end up buying it, thanks for your inputs.

Came back with two bikes

I went to see the bike and it is beatifulla and in fantastic shape , so i bought it. The picture is just to give an idea, it doesnt do the bike justice. I also bought an other bike he had ordered custom made some 30 years ago. The bike is a LE CROC made in montreal and it is equipped with super record derailleurs and shifters, modolo brakes , ofmega mistral cranks and mavic hubs, a very unique looking bike. I got both for a little over $1500 (cdn)...mmm now I really need to start selling some bikes...

Here are some crappy pics...

DEROSA

LE CROC

Really? I tought it was an obscure an unknown framebuilder, I couldnt find anything on google (like with most of the time). I think I will post a thread about the Le Croc...

Thanks to all about your comments, I was relieved to see the de rosa didnt have the rounded fork like the neo primato ''exclusive'' that was for sale on ebay. I rode the bike for a couple of meters and it was VERY stiff, I'll go for a longer run today...

EDIT; It is a LE CROCO not a LE CROC

Absolutely beautiful bicycles/pieces of art. You just seem to attract them. I really like the Le Croco. Are you going to make more pictures available? Are both frames the same size? A great find. Congratulations.

I am in Vancouver and in the early 80's there was a small group of hardcore roadies in North Vancouver and 4 or 5 of them rode and raced on Le Croco bikes. That group of riders spawned the owners of "Cove" bikes, Rocky Mountain bikes and Kona plus the famous "North Shore" style of MTB. There are a few floating around here but I haven't seen one for sale. I believe they were built in Quebec, small builder possibly an ex Euro Pro?

Sure! I'll post more pictures as always. But there is a little bit of assembly to do before that and I have a bike to pack. The prevous owner actually sat with the builder and was involved in every step of the design, he said he will try to find the original receits, but he remembers the total cost to be over $3K. If I remeber correctly,he had it built in montreal and the builder was a easter europe guy (dont remember the country) that liked alchool. The bike was built to be a Derosa copy in terms of geometry.

Beautiful! Those Primatos are sharp looking machines.

P.S.: Thought you'd like to see this, since we're on the topic of Neo Primatos - here's an '80s DeRosa frame I bought at one of the local shops; it had been recently repainted with the current Neo Primato scheme. Wasn't a badly done job either.
