Hello,
Can you confirm me that this bike is a Pinarello Treviso '86 ?
I have a doubt with the two colors decals
There is a lot of differents component ...
Rear dereailleur : shimano crane
Front derailleur : shimano dura ace
Shifters : campagnolo
Brake : universal mod 77
Crankset : stronglight ?
Rims : Mavic

What is the best way to put it like new (especialy with the chrome parts) ?

To be honest, while the fork is probably a Pinarello, I have serious doubts whether the frame is. It definitely is not a 1986.
I am not sure what GPT stands for, but I haven't seen it on a Pinarello before. Every Pinarello I have seen has the same emblem as on the fork crown where yours says GPT. The lugs don't look correct either. That color doesn't seem to be an original Pinarello color either and the decals do not appear to be from 1986.
However, there are others here that know a lot more about these things than I. It is possible that the prior owner repainted it and did some customizing. I would wait until the experts speak before buying this bike.

It is a Pinarello.

'G P', are the maker's first and last initials.

'T', is the city in which it was made.

The model is probably what you think.

The year, - probably before late '84.

I don't think it is a Montello. I believe they all used internal routing for the rear brake cable and a brazed-on fitting for the front derailleur.

This bike looks to me to be considerably earlier than any other Pinarello that I have seen; certainly earlier than Montello's. The parts mix would strongly indicate mid-70's...you may have a real prize here. Is there a serial number?

I had an 1980 Treviso in candy apple red, plain white lettering, riveted headbadge, chrome fork & fully painted frame,chrome rear dropouts . Tubing was Columbus TreTubi. It had the same fork crown,Btm-bkt ,bridges and lugwork as your own. Clamp-on front derailleur,toptube braze-ons for the brake cables and a single pair of downtube bottle bosses.Seatstay caps were the GP logo rather than GPT as on your bike.
My guess would put the date in the late 70's, likely only a year or two earlier than my own(ie 78/79). I'd expect that early/mid 70's Treviso's wouldn't have shifter braze-ons.

there are many threads on this forum that detail the techniques to use to restore finishes and in particular chrome finishes. Start with a search or two and narrow your questions about restoration. I, for one, vote for preservation of the existing finish, because it is most likely original. Decals can be reproduced or possibly purchased on eBay...check with Greg Softley in Australia (GTS753 eBay seller) as he already has a wide array of decal sets and may have one for your bike as well. Keep us posted on how your restoration is going; I am not the only one here with a soft spot for Pinarellos.

I have one of those, although if memory serves, I picked it up in 1983. Tretubi, pantographed all to heck with NR and GS components, in that silver/gray/gunmetal color. I'll get some pics up...

Edit: just looked at the bike, it appears from the stamp on the underside of the BB, it's a 1982.

Clément, c'est en effet un cadre qui s'est vendu vers la fin des années 70 ou tour début des années 80. Je serait porté à dire que c'est plutot des années 80, car les cables des dérailleurs passent en dessous du boitier et non pas audessus. En plus, si le cadre était des années 70, on se serait plutot attendu voir les patins plus longs, ave les deux trous filletés pour permettre le montage du portacatena (porte chaine). Ces patins étaient presque obligatoires sur tout cadre de 1978 jusqu'en 1980-1. Il ne faut pas oublier non plus que à l'époque, Pinarello vendait quasi uniquement des cadres nus, si on ne passait pas dans son négoce a Trévise. Vu que tu te trouves en Europe, ce n'est pas du tout clair que les cadres seraient identiques à ce que l'on pouvait trouver en Amérique au meme époque.

Tu ne trouve pas que, comme francophone, c'est rigolo l'indication GPT?

I still have mine from 1982, I think it was a '81 model. The GPT on my seat stay were designed a little different that the block lettering used on yours, mine were like the white one in a picture posted earlier. That design looks like a mid seventies model, so a '75 might be an accurate estimate.

checking the pics in www.bulgier.net, the Treviso without chrome chainstay could be before 1985. The Treviso decal seems out of place and in surprising condition for the age of the bike. Was the bike repainted?

Component pics aren't much help as they are very often not original and many older frames were built up at the bike shop with whatever they had or the customer wanted.

Good shots of decals, lugwork, dropouts, fork crowns, bottom brackets, serial numbers, chain hangers, cable guides, headbadges, brake bridges, any unusual bits, etc. are preferred. Close but not too close for a good pic. And no cell phone camera photos.

It is a early to mid 80s Pinerello, very similar to this one:

There is no question that is a Pinarello and is genuine. It is probably a low(er) end model as it does not have the chrome chain stay, internal routing etc. Pinarello made a bunch of limited models in the 80s, they made a sub Montello which mine is and the Montello and a Triathlon model and a model like yours for entry level racers. I don't recall the various model names. I bought mine new in Houston, Texas, 1984. BTW, the bike is my all time favorite, I have had less and way more and yet it is the one I have kept and ride still to this day more than any others. It is fast, quick, stable, a perfect blend of flex and speed and outfitted as mine is, very light for a steel bike.

I do believe the two color decals may be replacements, Pinarello decals sucked, and that is all I can say for that.
