and some pictures. This one has already transpired. I went to it one year, but it was primarily for old balloon tire bikes, not really my thing. Still interesting, though.

I went to a swap in El Sobrante, CA last weekend. Lots of great bikes and parts. One seller had some Mafac Tiger brakes and a chrome Paramount I was interested in. After he told me he wanted $400 for the brakes I didn't bother asking about the Paramount.

Sure was. This one isn't very big, or at least wasn't when I went. It wouldn't take more than an hour to see everything. I bet if they courted the vintage lightweight crowd a little more, they could expand a little.

There was on on 10.14 at Alllstate Arena, I didn't go.
There is one in Madison on 01.12.08 https://www.brazendropouts.org/swap07.shtml
I went last year. It is mostly new stuff but there was about 10-12 vendors with vintage stuff. I got a Campy seatpost (post only, no hardware) for $1, a TTT stem for $3, Lyotard pedals for $8 and a Campy NR headset for $5. A NR pista headset went for $20, I waffled .

Swap 11/10 in Tucson. I am told it is pretty big. As I am in Phoenix at that time, I am hooking up with a CR type and we are heading down for a smash and grab. He assures me the swap actually starts prior to the advertised 0800 time and most of the good stuff is gone by then.

If there was a vintage bike swap meet here, I'm sure it would be a lot of fun sitting around with the other 3 guys who like old bikes. In all seriousness though, there would probably be a decent sized crowd. And they would all be selling their early '90s girl's Huffys for only 75% of the original price.

Every April there is a similar show in Ann Arbor, MI. Mostly balloon-tire content, some rare racing lightweight oddities, lots of parts that are below what you'd expect from Ebay, some decent vintage lightweights. Several local dealers blow out parts, and if you're restoring a Schwinn or a Flyer you can find the books and the experts. There's also a juried show and a bike auction. Worth seeing, but it's not a vintage lightweight show. Minimal Masi, Colnago, Peugeot, or even Varsinental content.

Last year I saw a couple of Schwinn Paramounts, EG. Bates, Hetchins f/f, Raleigh Pro, and not much else. But, I did buy a couple of things at this past one. But, it is unfortunately mostly middleweight crusier and muscle bikes kind of a show. I think we could use a real swap meet that is vintage lightweight specific or even newer road stuff with some vintage in this area.
Re the current Ann Arbor show: yes, I do usually find some items of interest, but still just a few needles in the haystack, comparatively. 3 yrs ago there was a cute tiny Paramount track bike that had been converted to 5-speed, with a neat way of quickly converting it back - should have nabbed it!
