Anyboy use one of these Selle Anatomica saddles?

I stopped in the LBS today and noticed one of these saddles. They look a little odd compared to a conventional Brooks but I don't think they would be out of place on a vintage or touring bike. Kind of like a Brooks that's been hacked. And it felt extraordinarily comfortable to the touch, sort of hammock like, like the old well broken in Brooks I had a while back, not at all like the two new Brooks saddles I have that are extremely hard. I didn't have a chance to test ride it but I might when I bring the Panasonic in for some work next week. The shop owner said these are aimed at the long distance cyclist/tourist. I liked the relatively flat profile that doesn't look like it would require the nose up position of a B17 and the high handlebars.

Can you get a report back to us on the forum after you do the saddle upgrade? I have heard they are better than Brooks. The rails are longer so the adjustment is supposed to be better. It is said that you can fine tune the tightness of the saddle by adjusting the bolt. It is not like a brooks where not adjusting it too much is critical.

Does your shop carry the standard version or the water shedding version? I am very curious about these.

absolutely love mine.. I have the non watershedding version as it doesn't rain here that often. I do have his waterproof bar tape though, its works well..

Do you mean waterproof leather bar tape?

I'm also pretty tempted by one of these saddles, and would love to hear from people who have ridden them and Brooks and can compare. Has anybody tried the watershedding version?

Rivendell is selling those now. There's a very long write-up on their site

I think they keep one of each for test riding. They only had the regular model on hand. They were letting a customer who had just ordered one use the waterproof test saddle until his arrives. It definately had longer rails then a Brooks and a very flat profile, similar to a Brooks Professional but even flater. Who knows, they might even let me take it for the day to do a thorough test ride if I leave them my Brooks. It's a new LBS in a tiny little hole in the wall space in a strip mall but they seemed very friendly and willing to work with you. Kind of like an old fashion bike shop back in the day0 where you can just drop in and chat with the owner. They don't specifically do anything C&V but I'm sure they would accomodate vintage bikes.

They are great saddles. A friend bought one and loved it, so I modified a brand new Brooks B-17 exactly the same way, and it is wonderful! The saddle moves under your anatomy as you pedal, and has the feel of a finely broken in saddle right at the start. They make a simple basic model without any re-inforcing or water proofing, and that's how I would go if you buy one for a classic bike. I believe the basic model is like $65. The one shown is around $110.
You will like it a lot!

Him who? Does somebody do this? Did I miss something? I wouldn't mind having my Champion Flyer "anatomically" modified but I'm hesitant to start operating myself.

Tom, who is the designer of the saddles started out by adapting brooks saddles. He will still do it for around $50.

I originally told him I wanted that done but he sold me a new wider titanico saddle after some discussion about my size and goals.

The only concern I have is the report (multiple really) that you
need to really tension the saddle for it to be effective, repeatedly.
I'm just not sure if that is such a great idea as too much tensioning will
eventually destroy a Brooks saddle.

I like my Anatomica a lot. It was weird at first because of the hammock effect and comfort. I found it flared a bit much and am still adjusting to get it right. I still prefer my broken in B17. But the saddle I ride the most is a Brooks Swift. With 600 miles it still needs some breaking in. The B17 only took about 200 miles.

I cant speak to that, after 1500 or so I have done maybe 4 tension increases and have maybe used 30% of the bolts length. I would guess that this saddle will last me through 10k easy, if not, its still worth it by a long shot.. It allows me to ride distances I could never handle with my previous 3 saddles..

I've had my An-Atomica for two rides now.
The first ride was around 45 miles, I made a couple of adjustments fore-aft and height trying to figure out what felt comfortable, not really following the directions. I could have rode another 20 miles if not for the IT band issue.
This morning I rode 32 miles, adjusted the saddle back and down slightly. I had to cut the ride short after 2 hours, but I could have easily done another 2 hours.
Today’s ride was the most comfortable I have ever been on a two hour ride. NO issues at all with my sitbones or the rest of my seating area.
I know not to get too excited with new saddles so I am still being cautious about my review.
I’ll probably do a more indepth review after I manage a 70+ mile ride as that is where all the other saddles have disabled me.

Being able to stay seated for longer periods of time , while being able to ride over rougher roads without having my seat jack hammer my arce is just one of the pleasing attributes of this saddle so far.

Last weekend, my wife took her An-Atomica on it's second ride and did 95 miles. No sitbone issues either. She did mention something about putting in some tension.
