Need Help! Looking for a 1" Lugged Cromed Fork

Hey all,

I have been trying endlessly to get a good looking 1" threaded chromed fork for my 53 Benotto Frame. I've checked every site I can check but I'm not willing to spend 200+ dollars on a fork. Ive tried to ebay, but I never end up winning the bids for these things.

Just hoping someone else knows where to look to get a decent lugged steel fork (preferably chromed). Thanks!

try your local bike shop. I recently bought a chrome tange cr-mo road fork for about 60.00. looks great rides better and will give you time to hunt down the real fork. if the shop stares at you crazy say " Oh, I'm sorry, I thought this was a bike shop not a bicycle store" I'm pretty sure that qbp carries one but mine came from wilson cycle (west coast)

otherwise keep trying ebay... I managed to get a chromed lugged splined, miyata fork with bosses for a rack and canti brakes. Just keep looking, and try many categories. even hit up the vintage-transportation category.
Got it for $40 + $20 S&H, then $40 installation charge from my LBS. But hella worth it. :-D
Yes, I still do have a spare Miyata 1in threaded fork, but probably not your cup of coffee. came from a 50cm frame and has canti-brake bosses on it.

Do you want a 700c fork? This one doesn't have a crown but at under $50 with shipping, might do in a pinch.

If a 27" one will do, try this one through Harris and QBC. Again, the price can't be beat at under $30.

Good luck.

This one should fit the bill. It looks nice. Who knows about the ride quality but it looks good.

I think that you should try your local bike shop that specializes in older and used bikes. We have a couple of shops in this area that carry those forks in the store for about $50-$65, depending on which one you pick out. There are a few companies in China that specialize in creating new, chromed versions of older parts like your 1" threaded road forks. I actually have a pair on the front end of my vintage Trek, due to a wreck that folded my old forks. The Chinese chrome models are a little heavier than when American and European companie's versions that used to make this sort of part (heavier steel tubing instead of chromolly), but they work great.

Have fun out there!

Gene is da man. Give him your business. He also used to sell Benotto's, so he may have something for you.

I have the same one on the Harris link, but paid a few bucks less. Works very well, and the Voyageur doesn't feel heavy because of it. You also can't tell it's a replacement until you look at it closely. The unpolished crown and drops give it away. Looks exactly like the Schwinn part otherwise. It also has the safety lips on the drops, a plus in my book. That $60 fork is a beauty though.,,,,BD

Wasn't the OP's bike a 53 model? That would have a 27 inch wheel with a larger tire, or am I wrong? That fork while beautiful, looks like a 27" would hit the inside of the crown. It's noted it's a 700C, made for a short reach caliper. It also has recessed brake mounting, something not on a 53 model bike? Anyone got one to say for sure?,,,,BD

First of all,

you all rule for lending your expertise my way... thank you very much. One of the posters here PM'd me and sold me a great fork at a really great price. Thanks again everyone! Once I get this benotto (its a 1985 53cm benotto) powder coated (going with a baby blue) and built, I'll put the photos here!
