    Wow this has become my favorite thread. The pics are absolutely stellar. I have an 88 Nishiki Modulus with a 64 cm CrMo Kawamura frame. I have replaced the brake calipers,Rd,Fd with Ultegra 6500. I replaced the brake levers with Shimano Bl R600. Still using the 6 speed cluster and down tube shifters. Until finding this thread I was not going to attempt any further mods ---- But OH Baby!! Think I'll start looking for the rest of those goodies I'll need to make it happen. Thanks and keep the pics coming. Lp

    The 7400 der. will only index right with 7400 shifters, dt brifters or other wise. Any hyperglide cassette will work along with any HG hub. the 7402 hubs are the ones that you need to look out for as they are uniglide
    When in doubt, style it out.

    As mentioned in another thread this frame has been compromised. While setting it up with the current components it was found to have stress cracks in the TT around the back cable routing hole. Being as I do not have a frame to hang these parts at the moment, and the cracks don't compromise the ride or my life as of yet, I decided to finish building it up and ride it until safety really becomes an issue. Hopefully soon I will be receiving a 1990 Waterford Paramount frame from my brother-in-law, but until then...

    r550 wheelset
    SR Laprade seatpost (heavily polished)
    Nitto stem (miyata branded)
    Nitto B105 bars
    105 pedals

    I have two bikes with Campy, and I love it. If you don't mind spending the extra bucks, go Chorus. If not, Centaur will work well, too. BUT....

    For 2007, Campy changed the guts of the ergo shifters. With Centaur and below they now use a "release" mechanism, like the Shimano STI, so that each throw of the thumb lever only drops you one cog, versus the older mechanism which allowed you to drop multiple cogs at once. This feature was retained on Chours and Record.

    I prefer the older system, because when you change from big ring to small ring, you can instantly drop the right number of cogs to put you in the right gear. This is even more important if you go with a compact, because 1) you'll shift the front more often, and 2) you need to drop 3 cogs, instead of the 2 that works for standard cranks.

    Thanks for the advice guys! I was partial to Chorus.
    What would be the weight savings over 8-sp DA STI using the modern 10-sp Chorus?

    Is PBK the best place to score the whole group?

    Everything works well on the Serotta but after getting the CF Madone the Serotta seems like a tank, but a great handling tank. I don't think it would be worth spending the extra $$$ only to save 1-2 lbs

    PS I am already using tubular wheels but might be able to build up some lighter wheels.

    I believe that online you can still find 2006 Centaur shifters with the "dump" feature. Check Nashbar and Lickton.

    Nashbar had them for $149 last week, but I don't see them on the website anymore. Lickton has the 2006 Centaur, but they are Gray And they are $189. Best bet might be eBay, they usually go for ~$120 or so....

    FWIW, PBK have SILVER 2007 Veloce shifters, with complete cable kit, for $100 delivered. Hard to go wrong with that - I just received my set for the upcoming Battaglin build.

    For the best complete group prices, either PBK or http://www.gvhbikes.com/. Tom at GVH is very competitive, and his group builder tool on the website is very versatile.

    It will work wit 105 downtube shifters also.

    I wouldn't have been much help anyway - I don't know much about the brand, and very little about Battaglin himself. I bought mine off Ebay because it was Columbus MAX tubing, in my size, and I wanted to build up a bike from a frame.

    I only ask because I have an extra set of 7400 dťrailleurs and and extra set of 105 dt shifters and it would be nice not to have to track down more Dura Ace stuff.

    I am in the process of re-inventing my bike collection to consist of STI/Ergo hybrids and SA 3-speeds for road use. Currently, the Pinarello Montello 8-spd Ergo and the Titan 9-spd STI are the only bikes relavent to this thread. The Pinarello is just about done. The Titan is the road warrior and an ongoing work in progress ( I'm not completely happy with the fork and cockpit).

    These bikes ride VERY differently but both are vastly superior to the aluminum and composite bikes that they have replaced. 25 years and 25 pounds ago I probably would have expressed a different opinion but here and now, given the way I ride today, they are just perfect!!!

    I've got a bare pearlescent orange Miyata 912 frame that I planned on putting all the original 600 Arabesque stuff on it. Since then, I've come across a full 8-speed Campy Chorus gruppo for free (granted I sell the frame it's currently attached to). Would it be sacrilege?

    Take the rear wheel out. Grip the dropouts in your hands. Pull them apart. It will take a lot of strength. Try to put the 130 wheel in. You'll probably need to pull some more, harder this time.     I think it would be excellent, and most likely give you an enjoyable ride.
