Wow, Grady - she came out kitted beautifully! Nice overall choice for components - I am looking forward to the apres-dialed-in ride report

Nope.
Merckx Century is though.
So are two Treks just today, a clean 770 and a time capsule 720.
The goal is an even half dozen left here by mid-summer. I'll keep only my super favorites.
and thanks DD!

Mid-80s Tommaso SL/SP. Record 11 but with Record square-taper cranks (with 11 speed rings) just because I love the looks of them. A little over 20 lbs without pedals, not bad considering the frame size.

Loved the test ride on the new Chris Kvale today.
Coming off a very long ride yesterday, I got up early and threw some tires (Gatorskins-blech!) on the extra set of Daytona/Open Pros.
Tossed them on the bike and we were off to Hastings for lunch.
First impressions!
Maybe the nicest steel bicycle I've ever ridden.
Certainly a bit stiffer than my 1995 Kvale in the bottom end and stays.
Details later, after I dial her in.
FWIW I was going to toss on a Chorus 10 speed gruppo, but I see little need to after the way the bike performed today.
Can't wait to try her with the Veloflex Master 23s I have on order.

Not a fan of gatorskins either. I have a set on one bike and wish they would bite the dust. They are durable, but they make the smoothest bike a bit to jarring.

I'll try to get some updated photos tomorrow.
Lots of wrenching time since the accident.
I have to stay away from eBay and the forums so I don't buy more stuff than I should.
There's another Kvale calling my name, along with a De Rosa or two.

Vain, But Lacking Talent
Interesting - I think I solved any potential friction issues with the BB guides by using short lengths of Teflon housing there. My shifting had issues until we added a ferrule to the RD and re-adjusted one last time.
I agree on the front shifting, too - seems the throw is quite far for a double. I always seem to do a complete throw, then a little further push to trim it out when going from small to large ring.
Thirdgenbird: can we tap your vast well of Ergo knowledge here?

After a few attempts at dialing in the tension and failing to get a satisfactory shift, I pulled out the Campy instructions which told me to align the inside cage with the chainring as opposed to the outside. Sure enough, that put the outside cage slightly kicked out at the back end, but it shifts beautifully now with full use of the trim steps. Before I realigned it, I could get it to work, but it required some force and never seemed to keep from getting chain rub on the extreme ends of the cassette. Not that you should cross chain, but the Campy FD instructions actually used the big/big combo to set the FD.
So this may not apply to previous generations, but maybe for the current stuff. If you have it, I would dig out the instructions for the FD or check with Campy.

I love this thread. And now I get to put my commuter in here, yay!
An 87 Specialized Sirrus with a powdercoat. That was a quick setup before I swapped the rear hub on my Mavic Open Pros. They're back on there now. Just used what I had from the Bianchi before I swapped everything to Campy. A mix of 90's Ultegra and Dura Ace. But what I REALLY love about the new setup is the FSA Wing Pro Compact or whatever they're called handlebars. They're wonderful for a slightly more relaxed overall position. This will also be my camping/touring bike.

Ciocc Designer '84
Just finished this Ciocc Designer '84 build yesterday...my first, go easy. Circa '88-90? SLX frame, full '09 Centaur carbon group, Record hubs laced to OP's. still dialing it in but it's already the fastest bike i've ever ridden...lots faster.

Not too shabby for a first build, she's a stunner!
That wheelset is one of the nicest combinations you'll find for an every day rider. Durable and smooth smooth smooth.

The adapter is a deda spada with a shim, it is a 1" threadless stem adapter and my stem is 1 1/8". I used 1" spacers under the stem to cover up the shaft of the adapter so it looks less obtrusive. The saddle is a nashbar gr2

That's the way to do it. Although I usually use a 1 1/8" adapter so I can over the bottom part of the clamp space and have it "lock" the spacer in place too.

There are some good looking bikes on this page.
What are the bars on your Colnago, mazdaspeed?
