The crankset is a Profile Design, designed for Octalink V1, bought purely because it was Octalink. I was cruising eBay, looking for compact cranksets, and found a compact Ritchey WCS (NIB) that was Octalink V1. At the same time, I found the Profile, and bought that, too. Both were much cheaper than I'd figured. The plan was to build a Dairyland Dare Ironman with a compact setup, and then be able to swap cranksets and chain to go 53/39 around here on the windy flats.

I never intened to do it with an Eddy, but a trade snafu ended up with me having an Italian threaded Octalink V1 BB. One thing led to another. This will be my Dairyland Dare bike, with the black Ritchey compact, and my MS150 bike, with the Profile.

Ok -- I upgraded mine again (for better or worse). I added the EC70 carbon fork, went threadless with a nice pewter Chris King HS, honed the seat tube to 27.2 mm and went from silver to black for the stem, post, and bars (all EA70). It will take me a little while to get used to the colors, but I think RobbieTunes lead me the right way with the color scheme. I'm hoping that carbon fork and the black parts tie in the wheels a little better! LOL

The only issue is that with the new fork I developed the undesired toe overlap.

^I guess the only thing you can do for the toe overlap is get shorter cranks/crankarms...

I'm not gonna lie, I'll probably do the same thing to my Cdale but that fork looks out place. It doesn't look *bad* but rather just out of place. Remember I said this when I post mine that looks just like yours lol. Overall though, I appreciate your bike and I give it a.. HOT!

I think the black parts look great. A silver stem and post would make the fork and wheels look out of place. This ties it all in nicely. The white saddle, tape, cages and hosing look great too.

Dont worry about the toe overlap. My 59cm Colnago has a good deal of toe overlap with the OEM fork. It isn't a problem and you adjust quickly. I can still do tight maneuvers and track stand.

Edit: I briefly debated a carbon fork on it too.

Thanks guys!

Yeah, I feel like a traitor to the magenta Gods on that fork, but I kind of hoped the fact that the yellow was a close match to the seat tube would make it "ok!" Whether the carbon fork proves to be worth it is yet to be seen, but if nothing else -- I'm liking the look of the threadless HS and modern bar/stem.

I'll be watching for your Cannondale shoota!!! LOL

DAMN THOSE RED HUBS!!! That's why there is red in the fork too!

Seriously though, If they had the SLS model with the white hubs out when I got these that would have happened! Unfortunately, the deal I got on these wheels made it to much to resist. Now, if anybody wants to swap me some white hub Ksyrium SLS wheels...!!! Hell, I've even debated having the hubs reanodized in black!

Haha. Be thankful its just the hubs...

I have a killer set of wheels that as the same problem. It is silver record 10spd hubs laced to red cxp33 rims. They are practically NOS but don't match anything I own.

As for the ride, ive never ridden a modern cannondale so cant say, but compared to my 2011 BMC SLR01 team machine (which people say is harsh), i find stiffness wise, or harshness is rather similar funnily. Mind you im no pro, so my opinions would probably mean nothing to you!

Rolls didnt suit my backend, neither did a regal i had, so went with my tried and tested arione, most people are taken back when they realise its nearly a 25 year old frame!

I like it all. Slim steel fork works for me (CF might too?). Just beautiful.

1987 531c Mercian Pro, my regular ride for the last 26 years.

I bought the frame new and ran it with Campy NR until 2007, when I rebuilt with Ultegra. I prefer the aesthetics of the old components, and the performance of the new group. Silver Chris King headset, Thompson post, original Cinelli bars/stem, the current wheelset uses a pair of Velocity Aeroheads that I built up with the Campy hubs when I switched from tubulars. I rebuilt using them with the Ultegra hubs since they've been good to me so far.

Those lugs! Note the pump peg tucked under the headset. Other braze-ons are: chain hanger, 3 top tube cable guides and seat/down tube bottle mount. No FD mount or eyelets.

Mercian's signature BB extensions for stiffness:
