I call this one The Black Devil.
Easily the nicest original Black Lightning frame I've ever worked with (an early one, too- born January 2, 1987!), requiring only a buff, polish and wax job with a few teeny touchups. Campy headset, Rolls Due saddle, carbon post, new Shimano 5800 groupset (compact 50/34 with an 11/32 cassette, talk about wide range), with new Shimano RS21 lightweight wheels, new Vittoria Rubino Pro tires, 3TTT stem and nice traditional drop bars. Around 20 pounds & with the steel Tange fork a bike you can ride all day.
Given the gearing, hills should not be an issue.

That's real nice. I just wish the new shimano cranksets weren't so chunky.

I like it too! I was shocked how affordable the 5800 stuff is, especially if you're willing to buy from the UK. I just picked up a rear derailleur and some dura ace 11-sp bar ends to update my 1987 schwinn tempo to 11-sp for under $100.

Just to pile on... 5800 seems really hard to beat as a value proposition. I wouldn't hesitate to use on a new build. The new design Shimano rim brakes are particularly excellent.
Not my bike, but too good not to share, especially with the other Cannondale retro builds on here, excellent CAAD 3(?) in Saeco livery from V-Salon:

BTW, the Black Devil has been sold to a fellow forumite.

That black Cannondale is absolutely sensational, and 11-speed 105 is unreal value from UK sellers at the moment.

I realize I don't have a nice crankset for my McLean. I'm looking to buy something fairly inexpensive, like around $50-75, including rings but not including BB. Used is fine. I want it to be SPD-type (with pins and ramps) and I'm pretty sure I want it to be a triple. Any suggestions? I don't know what's out there. I currently have an RSX-100 triple crank, but it's not terribly pretty, and it's pretty darned heavy. The bare right arm weighs more than the Campy arm it is replacing, and the Campy arm has its two rings still attached, with bolts.

Jack of all trades
^Hey Tom, I'm confused: you want a *crankset* that's SPD type? Are you referring to pedals?

Man I love this thread. Hot Rodding!
I'm in the process of building another Centurion Ironman for myself. This makes #4 I think? This will be my second with STI and first with any carbon. I recently got the frameset on ebay, sold the fork, went all Easton EC90 up front, and got a goodie bag from buddy RobbieTunes to help get the bits mounted. It's getting a Tiagra 10sp group and mavic ksyrium elites. Can't wait!

I've always had a thing for Gazelle's, probably because they often show up in large sizes. That one is sweet.
Also, hard not to love a red and white centurion.
