Your Paramount came to take no prisoners! Very sleek. I am a fan of black bikes.

I found this bottecchia with a mismatch of non original parts and ended up doing a full retro/modern update It's a 1989/90, Columbus SP frame (59cm) and though it's not the highest end frame, something about it spoke to me. I went with a full Ultegra 6500 group, nitto everywhere I could and Sun cr18/shimano 105 wheels... sourced everything used (to keep costs down) except the wheels. Still need to match the bar tape better and put new tires on it, but so far I'm quite happy. I couldn't resist the ridiculous vintage turbo saddle

Oddly hard to find black quill stems in 26.0 that aren't by Origin8 or Profile Design. Ended up finding this on Ebay UK.. I'll update the OP with specs.

Cool ride. Are those forks original? How does it ride? That turbo saddle may be a uncommon color, but they're comfy to me.

From all the pictures I've seen online, it looks like the correct fork.
I'm far from an expert, but the ride quality (even with the weird mismatched parts) was what drew me to the bike in the first place-- I had ridden some entry level modern bikes and been unimpressed before riding this bottecchia. I've only been able to go around the block, so to speak, with the new setup, but I'm hoping to get out there tomorrow or the next day for a longer ride.

That is really nice, fills a need for sure. There is also the 3TTT Mutant, 26.0 quill, removable faceplate, which makes the clamp a lot bigger, but works.

Welcome to the forum.

Great bike.

Don't sell SP short, choice of many a pro rider who needed strength, especially on large frames.

I'm piecing together a (mostly) 9 speed Chorus group. The cranks are 10 speed, but everything else is 9. One of the only things I still need is the front derailleur. Sheldon says it doesn't really matter but that makes me a little nervous. Should I go with 9 to match the shifters or 10 to match the cranks? Would an slightly older 8 work? Does it matter at all?

Rather tired Gitane from 1980 with a very long stem (140 mm). Planning a change to Brifters and a clincher wheelset. Sanded Down a stem converter and have bought a French BB on German ebay for a change to a 7400 crankset.

Should be fine. IMHO it's only when going to drastically up/down, eg 6 to 10 speed would I be concerned because chain thickness.

Mockup of my Gitane. Have orderered clamp adapter and BB. Nice to have a 531 bike again. Headset is in very good condition. Have had the Simplex seatpost lying around for 15 years, no use for a 26,4 mm short post until now.

1-Go to a bike shop and ask if they have any take-offs for sale. They often upgrade shifters and many shifters sets came with the DT boss stops. If they show you some in a green baggie, they're from a factory kit. Otherwise, they can run from "here, take 'em," to "that will be 29.99." Depends on the shop.

2-New or Used, they can come from Origin8, Wheels Mfg, and of course, Shimano or Campy. Amazon or eBay can have a set to your door fairly quickly, fairly cheaply.

Not as big a market for them now that most new bikes have adjusters or stop built in, and a lot of newer road bikes run the cable housing all the way from shifter to derailleur. Which means you save money on cable stops but pay through the nose for extra cable housing.

Not as sexy as that Colnago Super^, but I'm very happy with my Bin-Build Panasonic with Shimergo drivetrain. In fact I'm so happy with it that this is the third thread I've posted it to... Forgive me!

Killer crankset, colors, and what a range...Pike's Peak gearing.
Hard to make those colors look elegant, but you did it.

Finally I can contribute to this thread. The only caveat is that I cheated -- I bought the bike already converted

Stunning bike, I like every part of it from the rims to the gruppo. Scenery looks more like eastern Colorado, or somewhere else in the west, than New York though - are you visiting out here or is your location outdated?

Good eye! It is in fact eastern Colorado -- I'm out here visiting and enjoying the thinner, crisper air. Thanks.

Inspired by this thread, I've done a bit of a review of converting 7 speed (shimano) to STI/Ergo/brifters, to pass on some knowledge

Almost finished neo-retro Huissoon Columbus SLX ride.

Light-Bicycle 55mm rims on Novatec Classic (Ambrosio) hubs, Schwalbe One tubeless 28mm and 25mm tyres, Woolfteeth narrow-wide 44T chainring, Campy Monoplaner brakes, VO Grand Cru handlebars and... vinyl wrap emulating chrome...
