Team miyata track bike

Hi!I just bought this track bike and I really like it. I was surprise to see it is the same color as the team road bikes, I expected a black and white bike.

The sticker on the frame says double butted and the cranks are TA tavano.I put the zipp carbon wheel on just to see what it looked like with the blue tire, it came with the matching front wheel. Where I am having a problem is finding what make are the hubs. They have absolutely no marking on them and the rear hub is threaded on both sides. The wheels are supposed to be original except for the rear rim.

Also , I saw an 89 under the bb , does that mean it was made in 1989? finally, was the team model the best track bike they made or was there a team-sl model like in the road lineup. Anyways, for $150 ( yes cdn $) I think I did good .

Ps. sorry for the bad pictures and the mess...

Notice the brake wear marks on the rims. My old Ciocc has that as well. Does anyone know why the old Mavic rims wear like that? [besides the fact that the spokes pull the rims outward]

If you ever want to get rid of that Zipp front wheel let me know, maybe we can work something out

The seller insisted that the rear wheel was used on the street with and other bike ant that the tire was a road tire.I dont think it was used on the street although traces of a brake lever can be seen on the bar wrap.

A gardin track bike would be nice !... but I prefer the miyata ,

thanks but I am keeping the zipp, I have a pair and I will use them to build up my $5 limongi with my $100 dura ace 9 speed groupo, it has been a good week...

An old coworker had similar hubs to those. I guessed his were Gippieme because they were so close to Campy.

Nice grab. One of the kids at the local velodrome was on one similar to yours over the summer.

$5 Limongi. Want. $150 Miyata. Want.

That's a great looking bike you've got there. I used to have one of those black and white Miyatas... pretty entry level. Yours is definitely a cut above - nice lugwork all around, and that fork crown is just lovely. Have fun!.

And post some pics of the Limongi.

The bike is a 57cmand I’m 5’9’’ .It could do, but I was making an allusion to the fact that most people selling used bike use this argument, as if suddenly the bike did not fit anymore.

The limongi ,Im rebuilding for myself though. The paint is quite elaborate but really not my taste and some of the bike has been repainted with a brush and wall paint. I am having it powder coated soon...

thanks for all your comments!

You'll probably get more money with clinchers.

part it out, you'll get more interest that way, it's not like it has a unique matching group. You will get more bidders if you sell the frame alone. You can send me the saddle for my sage advice.

Yeah, just sell the frame and keep everything else, a track frame that is your size will come your way soon enough and you may want those parts. I bet with the right photographs, you could get $500 on eBay for it, from some of the crazy prices I have seen lately.

Thanks for all your suggestions ,but I dont feel like parting out this bike for the moment. I will most likely put a high starting price or buy it now.I wont put clinchers on either as I already had a matching rim to replace the rear one , so now both rims are polished tubulars. I ordered vittoria atlanta gold cl track tires and I think they will look very nice.I amafter this look...

I will probably not get back what I put on this bike but that enables me to spend money and try things without too much risk.

I would really appreciate if anyone could help me date this bike or have original catalogues showing the track bike line. Also , the heaset is a chromed dura ace heaset, is there such thing as a dura ace track headset or is it the same as the road headset? thanks a lot

Nice bike... I'd be interested if it was around 54cm

Check the serial number to date the bike. Form what I gathered here, the first letter gives the year: J=1981, K=1982, L=1983 etc...

Thank! it starts with an N so the bike would have been made in 1985 and not 1989 as I tought, that makes more sense , I think

I'm jealous. I've been looking for a decent vintage track bike for a couple years now and have yet to find a good one for a decent price. I've got about $500 coming to me that I'm probably going to drop on a track frame this winter. That Miyata looks like a nice ride. Not sure how heavy it is, but it looks like it has nice handling chracteristics.
