Medici Serial #'s
I just purchased a Medici Pro Strada with unknown history. Based only on inspection, review of availible Medici catalogues, and how the frame was built and those items that were included, I would guess perhaps 1980. It has a serial # identifying the frame size and thereafter a 4 digit frame number.
Does anyone have a collection of Medici serial numbers and or a way to futher date the frame from either the serial # or the way the frame is built.
Thank you in advance.
Have one too, you might have to wait.
Gian Simonetti allegedly is in Southern California still, I have not had any luck.
Mike Howard might still be at Atascadero (sp) and is due out in 2008 I think. My bet is that he will hook up with Brian Baylis at some point after, but who knows.
I have an 82 Pro Strada that I bought new...
...I'll check the serial numbers later in the week and try to get back to you on what I find.
OK, my Medici Pro Strada has the following stamped on the underside of the bottom bracket...63 01099. I purchased the bike in 1982 new from my LBS. The 63 is for the frame size, which is a 63cm frame.
Hope this helps.
PS, my sister also has a Pro Strada (vintage about 1988 or 1989). I'll see if I can get any info from her.
Thanks. Mine says 62.0101 and is a 62cm ctt. It was purchased from an lbs in 1981 slightly used. Based on what I have gathered so far, I'm guessing its a 78-80 based on what options it has. As for the serial #'s, my guess at this point is that Medici may have started at 0000 at the beginning of every year, but that is a guess only.
Thanks again, d
Just to update the age issue on my frame, in looking at an earlier Medici thread, number6 made the comment that thearly medicis used "liberated" masi lugs before they "borrowed" the Confente lug design. If so, that would explain the lugs on my frame which do not match the design shown in the Medici catalogues and in other photos of Medicis I have seen. They do match the '76 Masi lugs shown on B Hovey's website.
Although number6 doesn't say how long Medici used the Masi lugs, since they are not shown in any Medici calogues, I assume it was not long. At this point I'm guessing my bike is a '78, perhaps the 101st built ?
Thanks again, d
Resurrecting this old thread...

I recently picked up what appears to be a Medici MTB. That being said, I've seen nothing indicating they ever made one. Serial number is 88J2466, bike has Tange Prestige decals and full XT (M-732/730). Everything about it says 1989, I'm just not sure what it actually is! Any input would be appreciated.
