Help Me!

Last year I bought a Rossin right before I left AZ for MI. It was pretty rough, but barely used. Six months later I've bought more bikes and something has to go, so I get to work on the Rossin.

Here's my problem. I've finished it (apart from some new skinwall tires), and I think I like it too much to sell. I haven't taken it for any long rides yet, but it seems awfully nice in the short 'round the block' spins. Caterham has pointed out that they are very nice bikes, if not an 'unforgettable' ride.

So what to do? Send it to the bay in the Spring? Rossin's do not go for top dollar, it seems. Keep it and ? I have my De Rosa here in AZ, and a couple of nice bikes back in MI.

What do all of you think?

Here are the pictures:

Hey, if I knew what to tell you I wouldn't have 4 bikes in my bedroom, 6 in the living room, and 5 in the "dining" room. :D Honestly, that is a beautiful bike and I doubt I'd be able to part with it either.

cyclotoine 11-21-07 04:27 PM

I wouldn't part with it. It's beautiful, the pantoed parts and all... I vote keep it. It's everything I want my Faggin to be, but isn't. I might change the pedal for campy SL, but that's about it.

First thing I would do is shorten those brake cable housings.

Hard to say on selling it. Bikes like that are tough, because they do ride great, and usually get ridden more than rarer bikes in the stable. But they don't have the total coolness factor that makes you want to keep it even if you don't need it. Usually something new will show up down the line that you want and then it will be easy to let this one go.

FWIW, it's looks like a great size (54cm?) and I think would actually do pretty well on ebay.

luker 11-21-07 04:32 PM

it sucks...but you know you're gonna make more if you break it up...

Wino Ryder 11-21-07 04:54 PM

GAAWD what a beautiful bike

You best keep that baby, I dont care if Rossins' go for top dollar or not. That bike is gorgeous

Yeah, the housings are a bit long, but I've found it easier to shorten them than lengthen them, and I just wanted to take it for a ride for now. I have a set of original Campy cables, but thought the White would look better than the Campy Grey.

Yes it is a 54cm.

Those are some Shimano 600s I had laying around. I'll probably put some Dura Ace pedals on it, those are my favorites., unless someone has some Campy SL or SRs they aren't using ;)

The next thing I'd do is stop by the local electrical supply house and get some white electrical tape to replace that gawd awful black stuff you have on that nice white bar tape.

Then I'd ride the ell out of it. :)

Bikedued 11-21-07 07:33 PM

White saddle, bare aluminum stem, and keep it!!!,,,,BD

Old Fat Guy 11-21-07 09:04 PM

Heck, I'm still looking for a white saddle for my De Rosa, and dump the panto black stem? I don't think so!

WNG 11-21-07 11:12 PM

Aside from the defect length brake housings, I'd keep the look.
Yes, you must sell it.....to me.
:D

of course, you also need:

before you can call it complete, no?

Those come up all the time. Rossin and pantograph go hand in hand.

I ride all my bikes, that's too much $$ for friction shifters.

I'm not one of those OCP guys, or whatever you call them.

Hey, Old Fat! Really nice bike, I would be having trouble, too!

Put on come C-record platform pedals, you'll like them!

Don't you have pair of those you're not riding?

stringbreaker 11-22-07 01:00 AM

Gee if it was my size I'd take it off your hands in a heartbeat (for the right price of course )

Gary Fountain 11-22-07 03:00 AM

NICE!!! I know that I couldn't sell it. MI in the summer, PHX in the winter, perhaps you could re-locate to another State in the fall and have the Rossin there.

Its said that having two houses is like having two wives. Which from experience I can confirm is certainly true.

The upside is that with two houses you get to have twice as much stuff. Including bikes.

Nuff said?

Are you certain you've ridden that bike? I don't think I've ever seen anything quite that clean and shiny before :p .

I'm voting with the 'keep it' crowd. I think you've got a crowd pleaser there.

Phoenix in the Summer is NO place for bike riding, lol. I tried on several occasions while I was there. Felt like riding into an open oven set on 350*. Winter might be okay, on the other hand,,,,BD

Trolley Guy 11-22-07 08:45 AM

If that was my bike, it would remain my bike! It's beautiful. :)

Old Fat Guy 11-23-07 06:06 PM

Here's the bike it is replacing, if I can bear to sell it!

OFG, I wouldn't have to think twice about selling the Guerciotti in order to justify the Rossin.
